March 2024 EDITION
Dear Parents,
I’d like to acquaint you with the procedures we will use for determining classroom assignments for the 2024-2025 school year. Our ultimate goal is to place each child in an environment that is comfortable and conducive to the growth of the individual student. Much consideration is given to appropriately match the learning styles and personalities of students and teachers. Of equal importance is designing a classroom in which the children will positively influence each other.
A student’s current teacher may list particular needs related to the child’s learning style and the characteristics of the learning environment that would best meet the needs of the child. Their input is valuable and will be taken with great regard. The administrative team will collect needed information prior to making placement decisions. The placement process is highly reflective and focuses on the needs of all children.
Parents are invited to share views regarding their child’s needs, learning styles, and the characteristics of the teacher that would best meet the needs of their child. If a parent wishes to express their views regarding their child’s needs, this should be addressed in writing by writing a letter or email stating such things as the most important priority you have for your child in school, strengths your child has, challenges your child may face, or other factors you would like considered (health issues, learning style, special needs, behavior, peer concerns, family history). Please do not write any specific teacher names in your letter.
Please return your form by Friday, March 15 2024, in order for your input to be considered for placement. If you have any questions, please email me at ryanandrews@wsdr4.org.

AMI DAYS
Since we have used four of our District's six built-in snow days this school year, we wanted to share the next steps in case we surpass the maximum number of allotted snow days in the coming months.
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education allows school districts to count up to 36 hours of instruction through Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI), such as virtual learning or assignments completed at home, during emergencies, or extended closures.
Our district has not used AMI for weather-related closures in the past, but if we exceed our six built in snow days this year, the WSD will utilize AMI to keep students engaged in learning and prevent extending the school year into summer break. On AMI days, families and staff will be notified through the regular district communication channels (phone call, text, social media). Student attendance will be recorded on days when AMI is assigned and will be documented by the completion of assignments and turning in activities. Assignments will be turned in either through Canvas or by returning them to their teacher on the next in-person learning day. Teachers will be available electronically by email during the AMI days for guidance with instruction.
Peine Ridge teachers have been supplying AMI materials so you can start making plans in case we pass up our sixth snow day this winter. Please work with our building admin team and teachers to address any questions or concerns.

Focus School Software Coming Soon
In case you missed it in the January Inside the WSD, we're Transitioning from SIS K-12 to Focus School Software. Late Start Supervision
The WSD will once again be providing supervision for K-6 students who need to be dropped off at the regular start time on scheduled Late Start Days in the 2023-2024 school year. This is separate from our Before Care Program through Chautauqua, so if you are registered for Chautauqua, please DO NOT register for Late Start Supervision.

Changes to your child’s dismissal/transportation plans need to be communicated to the

If that is not possible, you may call the office on the day of the change before 2:00 p.m., so the office staff has adequate time to notify your child’s teacher. Once the sign on the front drive is turned to tell you that you have arrived late, you will need to walk your child into the main office. Please do not have your student exit the car and walk in by themselves. A parent will need to walk the student in and sign them into school.
