Please note that on two hour delays breakfast will not be served.
Please make sure your child has sufficient money in their lunch account.
You can pay online with efunds or send cash/check in with your child. If you are sending money in, please put it in an envelope with your child's first and last name, student ID number and their teacher name. Student ID numbers can be written in the memo line of the check. Please do not use nicknames or just your child's first name. Remind your child to turn the envelope in to their teacher.
When having lunch with your child, please remember to not bring in fast food for yourself or your child due to various allergies students may have. You can certainly bring a lunch for home or purchase a lunch at the Café.
Counselor's Corner
I had the privilege of visiting the kindergarten and first grade classrooms this week and providing Second Steps lessons on showing care and concern. We discussed that you show care and concern when you listen, say kind words, and help others. We also discussed that when we have empathy for others, it's important to find ways to show or tell them that we understand how they feel. I enjoyed visiting your child's classroom and look forward to visiting again soon.

Note from the Nurse
As we start the cold months - a few health tips:
Water! Water! Water!!! Please encourage your child to drink water. It helps rejuvenate and flush the body system, and with the air so dry, it keeps the body hydrated decreasing nose bleeds.
Remind your child to take the time to Wash! Wash! Wash your hands!!! It truly helps stop germs from spreading.
Fever: If your child has a fever > 100.0, they MUST stay home for 24 hrs fever free without use of fever reducing medicine.
Vomiting: Any student who has vomited due to illness must stay home from school and must be vomit free for 24 hrs before returning to school
Recess: All students are expected to participate in recess each day. District Policy states that the students will go outside if the temperature is above 15 degrees with the wind chill factored in. Students not able to participate may bring a note from home or from their physician. School policy only allows a student to use a note from home for three days, after which the parent note must be replaced by a Dr’s note. Parents need to communicate any recess excuse to the nurse and the teacher. So PLEASE, dress your child appropriately with coats, hats and mittens. You can take layers off but you can't put them on if you don't have them!
Early Release Days - Every MONDAY!

Report a Student Absence
If your child will be absent from school, please contact us at (317) 915-4210. You may call and leave a message on our attendance line anytime before 8:00 a.m. After 8:00 a.m., our office staff will be available to speak with you and document your child's absence. It is important to let us know your child will be absent or late arrival prior to 9:00 a.m.
If you know your student will be absent for more than two school days for any reason other than illness, we ask that you complete a Prearranged Absence Form (available in the HPE office) at least one week prior to the absence. If you notify your child's teacher of an absence via email, please make sure you also contact the office by phone or email (apowell@hse.k12.in.us) to ensure that attendance is marked appropriately.
Student attendance at HPE is vitally important. Please make every attempt possible to plan appointments and vacations outside of school hours. Regular attendance improves student performance and is expected as an integral part of our state mandated School Improvement Plan.
Safe Visitor Badges
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their Safe Visitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the Safe Visitor App (IPhone) or have your badge ready and available to be scanned when you come into the school office. The app is in Google Play for other types of phones. To find the Safe Visitor app, search for “SafeVisitor” (there is no space in between the words).
Upon leaving, please give your printed badge to the office staff for quick check-out.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tobi Fields at 317-594-4100.
Volunteering and the Background Check Process
Parents/visitors to HPE must have a background check on file with the school (including watching the anti-bullying video and completing the video survey) in order to volunteer in the school or to have lunch with a student. The link for the background check information can be found on link below at https://www.hseschools.org/services/other/school-safety/visiting-and-volunteering
The background checks are conducted by a 3rd party company, and there is a $13.00 fee for processing (payable online at the time of the application). Once completed, approved background checks are valid for a period of 3 years. Applicants will be notified via email when their background check has been completed and they will also notify people 30 days before their background check expires.

Non-discrimination and Non-harassment Information
All students in HSE Schools deserve to come to school free of fear and to feel safe to be their authentic selves. Discrimination of any type is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated at HSEHS Schools – this includes sexual harassment (Title IX) and discrimination based on disabilities or race (Titles II and VI).
If students ever experience any type of harassment, we ask that they report this immediately to an administrator, school counselor or trusted adult. Beyond reporting directly to building officials, HSE Schools has an entire support system in place for filing concerns and complaints, which can be located on our District website. https://www.hseschools.org/about/legal-notes
Text-A-Tip
Text-A-Tip is a program that allows students, parents or others to anonymously send a text or email message to our school resource officers and school administrators about concerns they may have for their own safety or the safety of others. Text-A-Tip will be actively monitored during the school day. It should not be used for emergencies—Call 911 if you need immediate help. For more information on how to submit a tip please use the link below.
After School Explorers

As we gear up for the event next week, we wanted to pass along some information.
- Registration is now closed. Payments are due THIS Friday, February 22. If you have not paid, we will be reaching out to you so your children do not lose their spots. Payment slips can be printed from your Registration Console on the updated ASE registration site. Link: http://harrisonparkwaypto.org/
- Your child must bring in a permission slip EACH DAY they are participating – this helps us all make sure they get where they need to go. Permission slips can be printed from your Registration Console on the updated ASE registration site. - This is a park and pick up program. Please park in the parking lot and enter through the main door, Door 1. You will then be directed to the correct class.
