Principal's Message
Hello Wildcat families,
Here at Wilson Creek, and at schools around the country, we are seeing the impact of the pandemic on our kids. We have more students who are struggling with anxiety, social skills and difficulty regulating their emotions. While we can't get back the social time with peers that our kids lost, we can work together to help students understand how to interact with others in positive ways and to manage their emotions.
Here are a few things you can do at home to help your child:
1. Teach values at home-here is a resource you can use to focus on and talk about specific values each week at home.
2. Give your kids responsibility-it's important for students to have chores to do at home to help them learn the value of hard work, and how to be a contributing member of the family. Kids may complain about chores, but it helps build their self-confidence when they can show they are responsible, hard-working individuals.
3. Let your kids struggle- it's important for children to learn to persevere. When a child works hard to solve a problem or complete a task, they value the work more than if it had come easily. Also, when we jump in and rescue our kids, it can send a message that we don't think they can do it on their own. If you know your child can overcome an obstacle on their own, let them do it and praise them for their effort. This will help build strong character.
All the best,
Stephanie Haga
