Principal Notes 11/13/2014
St. Cecilia School
Notes from the Principal
November is a transition time in the school and for families as we are preparing for Thanksgiving and starting to make holiday plans for our families. I hope your family can use the Advent Season to plan special activities that can unite your family and reach out to those around us as we spread the story of the Christmas season. The next two months are always a special time for our family with Thanksgiving plans and Christmas traditions. I hope all of us can remember the true meaning of the holiday and not get to caught up in the commercialization of Christmas and remember the joy of the season and the message of the Advent season.
Reminder on student tardies and absences
Parents, please remember that our school day begins at 8:25 a.m., so try to have your child(ren) here by 8:20 a.m. We have seen an increase in tardies lately.
Also, please remember to contact the school if you child is ill or has an appointment during the school day. We need to hear from you if they are gone to ensure their safety. This allows the school and parents to be aware that they are not in school and you know where the student is for the day. Your calling saves the office personnel time from the calls to parents of the students missing from school. As we enter the winter season some days the list gets long as students deal with colds and other winter illnesses. We appreciate your assistance!
No school, November 14th
Reminder, there is no school or any activities on Friday, November 14th.
Jeans Day - Backpack Buddies
On Friday, November 21st, we are holding a jeans day with all donations going to our Backpack Buddies program. Your student may wear jeans with their polo shirt for a suggested donation of $1.
Marketing Survey
For those of you who did not receive this at parent-teacher conferences, please print off and complete the attached Marketing Committee Parent Survey. We appreciate your assistance.
Book Fair
Dear Parents and Families:
Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits.
It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:
⦁ Set the example. Let children see you read.
⦁ Have a collection of books in the home. Update this collection routinely to keep pace with changing tastes and reading skills.
⦁ Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings to school the books kids want to read. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.
Before you visit the Book Fair, be sure to download the Book Fairs app to help you find the right books for your child. For more information, visit:scholastic.com/apps/bookfairs. And if you are unable to attend the Fair in person, we invite you to visit our online Book Fair at scholastic.com/fair. Our online Fair is available until November 25. Also, keep up-to date with the fair by visiting the Book Fair Homepage at:

Remember, all purchases benefit our school.
Sincerely,
Terri Simodynes
