Cultural Arts: Christylez Bacon "Human Beatbox"
On Monday, November 4, 2019, Christylez (pronounced: chris-styles) Bacon brought his sounds to Bushy Park as our second Cultural Arts performance.
"As a dynamic member of the progressive hip hop movement, Christylez Bacon brings innovation to an art form already known for melding varied urban musical styles. Bacon adds a new flavor to the mix by harmonizing musical genres from around the world in a multi-instrumental exploration of beat box (oral percussion), rap, go-go, classical music and beyond. He frequently performs with artists of diverse backgrounds as part of what Bacon calls his 'mission towards cultural acceptance and unification through music.' By building cross-cultural connections, these presentations help students gain insight into the universality of artistic expression and encourage their direct participation in the performance experience through the use of call and response."

- Compliment
- Say “Thank You”
- Smile
- Help
- Say “Hello”
Then, have them reflect on what they did.
PWNP November: Share the Warmth Update

Thank you for helping us "Share the Warmth."
PWNP December: From our Kitchen with Love
We are excited to announce our December PWNP initiative, "From our Kitchen with Love."
Our Community Service Partner People Who Need People (PWNP) is collecting frozen home-made casseroles at Bushy Park on Monday, December 16th, 8:30-9:30am.
Recipes
We are asking that you choose from the following three recipes:
Container
Please use a disposable 1/2 size aluminum pan (steam table pan).
Labeling
Please label your casseroles with the type AND date prepared.
Freezing
"Prepare the dish that you want to freeze. Spray your disposable aluminum pan with cooking spray so your food will not stick.
Place your prepared food into the disposable aluminum pan. Pack the container almost to the top, leaving enough room for expansion but not so much that ice crystals will have room to form. About 1/2 inch of space at the top of your pan is ideal.
Cover the pan with the matching lid or with a layer of aluminum foil. Ensure the pan is covered tightly and securely to prevent freezer burn."

Yearbook Cover Contest
We are looking for Bushy Park students to design a custom cover for this year’s school yearbook! This year’s theme will be belonging and inclusiveness (for example: ‘Everyone belongs at Bushy Park’. This theme will be discussed throughout the year in guidance lessons by Ms. Bengermino.) The winner’s entry will be featured as our front cover. The next top 4 entries will be featured on the back cover.
Entries are due by November 22nd. Please submit your drawings to your teacher no later than Friday, November 22nd. No late entries will be accepted. Voting by teachers and students will take place at school on December 5th.
All entries must:
- Be completed on an 8.5x11 sheet of white paper (printer paper), with a vertical orientation
- Contain “Bushy Park Elementary School” and the school year “2019-2020”
- Depict a belonging/inclusiveness theme
- Include Buddy the Bushy Park bear
- Have your name written in *pencil* on the BACK of your entry
Tips for a good entry:
- Add a bold outline to words and pictures.
- Use the entire sheet of paper for your drawing—fill in all spaces with color!
- Use crayons, colored pencils, or markers
- The darker you color your artwork in, the better.
- Neatness counts!
- Don’t forget to illustrate belonging or inclusiveness in your artwork!
Some examples from past cover design contests:
- “Green School” themed covers
- “Kindness” themed covers

Classroom Book Fund
Grocery Rewards
Please consider joining the Harris Teeter and Martins School Rewards programs this year. This is an easy way to raise funds for our school while doing your food shopping. Unfortunately, with the loss of the Giant rewards program, we are significantly down in our normal earnings, so if you shop at either of these stores, please consider adding Bushy Park to your rewards card. Joining Harris Teeter is as easy as emailing retailrewards.bpes@gmail.com with your rewards card number and your last name. We can take care of registering your card or you can ask your cashier at checkout to add School ID 1636. School selections have to be done every school year for Harris Teeter. For Martins, please go to their webpage and select our school in the Rewards & Savings section. Our school code is 41066. For Martins, this is a onetime selection, so there is no need to re-register every year. Thank you to those who are already participating in these programs! For more information please see: https://www.bushyparkpta.org/post/retail-rewards and scroll down to the Grocery Rewards section.
