Principal Update 2/26/24
Good Morning Memorial Families,
After a January that seemed to last for years, the month of February has passed us in the blink of an eye. I hope that vacation week was restful and fun for both you and your children and that you are ready to tackle the next seven weeks leading up to April vacation.
Since our return from December vacation, many of our students have brought in their new Stanley bottles. Unfortunately, most of them are not spill-proof and we are having to clean up many spills in the classroom, in the gym at dismissal, and in the hallways. We are asking that students not bring the traditional Stanley bottles to school, and instead stick with a water bottle with a spill-proof cap. We appreciate your help with this.
We will hold family meetings this week on Tuesday afternoon. Be sure to ask your children about their family and what they enjoy about this small group time together. It is one of my most favorite times of the month, and I especially love watching the fourth graders in my family interact and enjoy the company of our kindergarten and first grade family members.
On Friday, we will celebrate Read Across America, which as you know is always a big deal at Memorial. Great thanks to Mrs. Hagen and Mrs. Gale for all of their hard work preparing for this day and to the Memorial PTO for their support of this event. We will all enjoy community readers in the morning and we are grateful for the many members of the Upton community who are coming out to spend time with our students.
And finally, thank you to our families for all of the donations to our Global Citizen group's food drive last week. It was a huge success, and we are thrilled to fill the shelves of our local food bank.
Have a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Wendy and Lauren

District Report Card
Dear Families,
Every year, each public school and school district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school’s report card is designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas.
The report card includes multiple measures of a school’s performance – more than just MCAS scores. It represents a new way of looking at school performance, by providing information on student achievement, teacher qualifications, student learning opportunities, and more.
Report cards are designed to be useful tools for everyone connected to our school. Families can use the information to have meaningful conversations with us about what the school is doing well and where there is room for improvement. Community and education leaders can use the information to better understand how to support students and our school. We encourage you to become involved in helping us improve our school. We see parents as critical partners in the success of our students and school, and we are grateful for your continued support.
Finally, if your child attends a school that receives federal Title I funds, you also have the right to request the following information about the qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers:
Whether your child’s teacher is licensed in the grade levels and subject areas they teach,
Whether your child’s teacher is teaching under an emergency license or waiver,
The college degree and major of your child’s teacher, and
Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
If you have questions about our school’s report card, would like to become involved in school improvement activities, or would like to request information about the qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher, please contact me.

Our school hours are 8:45am-3:15pm. Drop off begins at 8:45 and students who arrive after 9:00am are considered tardy. We will begin dismissal right around 3:15pm.
Due to the hectic nature of the late afternoon, we will no longer be allowing parent dismissals from the main office after 2:45pm. If your child has an appointment, please plan to dismiss him/her earlier, or make use of our pick up line at 3:15pm. Thank you for understanding.
