May 21, 2020
Dear Minuteman Community,
I hope all is well with you and your families, and that you are able to enjoy this beautiful stretch of May weather.
As remote teaching and learning continues, we remind and encourage you and your students to utilize the supports and resources of the Minuteman Library Media Center. Our website grows regularly and features 24/7 availability of our online resources and activities. Please reach out with any requests, information needs, citation and research support, collaboration ideas, thoughts, and questions.
Sincerely,
Kara Gleason, Library Media Specialist
Introducing Sora
Learn more at our Sora page at the library media center website and with the tutorial videos linked below. We expect that students will find Sora easy to use and access. Let us know if you would like us to set you up with an account.
Book Club Fridays Online Meetups
The library may be closed but we can still connect and talk about books! We invite students to join us for our virtual book clubs held every Friday on Microsoft Teams from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Most Fridays will feature a What are You Reading? drop in book discussion. We'll each be talking about different books, so be prepared to get a lot of good ideas!
We would love to get student interest and participation. Please share the details about Book Club Fridays with students. Faculty are welcome to join.
“Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.” Mason Cooley
Keep Calm and Cite Your Sources
Included in this encouragement for seniors was this public service announcement from the library media center: "Keep Calm and Cite Your Sources: Three Reasons Why You Should Include a Properly Formatted Works Cited Slide in Your Senior Project Presentation."
The Exemplary Reading Program Award Goes to...
In a headline news article featured on the Minuteman website, author Judy Bass reported that the selection committee "mentioned the media center situated at the hub of the school, the integration of reading skills in the school’s career and technical programs as well as in its academic programs, the outstanding reading program for freshmen, the multi-tiered system of support for the reading program throughout the school, and the allocation of financial resources to the reading program."
“There is a lot of commitment from everyone at Minuteman,” [Massachusetts Reading Association Vice President-Elect Patricia] Kelley said. “Literacy is being integrated across the curriculum. We understood the value in that.”
