All Things Baker
Principal's Message!
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I decided to dust off my history degree and do some research to remind myself of the amazing things he stood for. One that struck me was his idea that education is also meant to teach character. We hope that our kids gain knowledge and intelligence but instilling a sense of character is also something we should strive for. As I walk through my day I feel instead of asking myself, "Was that a smart decision?", perhaps I should be asking myself, "Did that decision show a strength of character?" The second question is certainly more thought-provoking!
As I am surrounded by students and staff daily that absolutely show a strength of character in all that they do, I am challenging myself to follow in kind. A strong character creates environments filled with trust, success, and helps sustain us through struggles. What more could we ask for in our school? Striving to model a strong character is how we continue to keep Baker Elementary School, Where Kindness is King . . . Simply the Best!
Sincerely,
Danielle Wallace
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders!
We would like to remind everyone of a few things for arrival and dismissal.
Arrival: Please do not use the front parking lot to drop off. When people park and send their kiddos across the front carline, it slows down the carline and it is not always safe. We know that sometimes the carline slows down and it can be frustrating, but it only slows down more when people park in the front lot. Pulling into the front parking lot also creates two lines coming from Heatherwood and heading north on Bluewood, both of which are illegal. People have gotten tickets for pulling out and around traffic. Sometimes leaving 5 minutes earlier can make all the difference.
Dismissal: Please do not park in the front or south parking lot to pick up the south walkers. When you pick up your kiddos at south walkers and then walk them across front carline, it is not safe. In addition, it slows down the front carline as you pull out of the lot. For north walkers, please avoid the school zone if trying to park. Certainly no U-turns, that is exceedingly unsafe for the kiddos walking.
Our teachers work so hard to make sure the kiddos are safe at arrival and dismissal and when we don't follow procedure, they cannot take care of our kids. In addition, we have approximately 200 new families. When our enrollment increases, coincidentally, traffic increases. Having been at other elementary campuses at arrival and dismissal, Baker runs very smoothly when everyone follows the rules.
Please allow a bit more time, just 5 minutes can make all the difference!
Thank you!
