Woodbury Junior-Senior High School - Weekly Newsletter
Friday, December 4, 2020
Message from the Principal:
Parent-teacher conferences will be held Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Times are available in the afternoon and evenings on both days. You will find a Google form below that has all of the links for individual teachers to sign-up for a time slot.
For high school teachers, you must reserve your spot with each teacher separately. For Junior High teachers, you can reserve your spot for math, science, social studies and English, by clicking on the grade level team; these core teachers meet with parents as a group. If you wish to meet with any other teacher, you must sign up individually.
Since conferences are virtual, the form below also has a Zoom link for the video conference to connect with the teacher during the time slot you choose. You will need to refer back to this form often.
If your child struggled during the first marking period, it is imperative that you conference with their teachers to try and collaboratively get them back on track. Our counselors and nurse are available for conferences as well if you would like to speak to them.
Thank you in advance for attending parent-teachers conferences next week; the home-school bond is the critical element in a child's success.
In partnership,
Dr. Vivadelli

Parent Teacher Conferences
Ms. Thomulka's Chemistry Class
Chemistry teacher, Ms. Thomulka, assigned her class to use Pear Deck, an interactive presentation application, to draw models of atoms to show electron transfer in ionic bonding. She was able to see all of the students' drawings in real time and share them on her Smart Board.
7th Grade Social Studies with Ms. Ruhl
Ms. Ruhl recently introduced her 7th grade classes to a new unit on exploration and colonization. Students were using prior knowledge and maps situated in the classroom to try to figure out why people were so motivated to explore. They shared ideas surrounding wealth, land, and fame as motivating factors, just to name a few. The best part of the lesson was when there was a comparison drawn between old age exploration of the sea and current exploration of outer space. Students were confused and slightly amused at the fact that back then people thought sea monsters existed. Ms. Ruhl quickly made a real time comparison explaining that the sea was unknown and unexplored, so people used their imaginations, the same way that space is still a mystery now and some think there are aliens. Students quickly understood that the unknown is left up to the imagination. It was exciting to see students make connections through time. Keep up the amazing job Ms. Ruhl!
