Post RoKS Priorities
Woo! We have just completed RoKS season! Now there's definitely no excuse to not be doing operations like sales meetings and the like. But, what do we do?? You can take a hint from any customer flow that we have...
IT'S VALUE DELIVERY TIME!
Here are 3 things to focus on this week to ensure we are actually beginning to deliver the value of the Global Leader program:
1. Team Standards
Fill out your trackers! About 1/3 of you have opened it and filled in your teams, and about 1/6 of you have it actually filled out for each team for January (oops! :/ ). It's very important that these are delivered and that they are tracked. This is the first level of Global Leader delivery. Also, February is quickly coming to a close so you should be updating February implementation as well.
2. L&D Support
I have received many inquiries about how to make LCM's better and how a TM team can work best with the LC. And in the last newsletter there was a link to a great tool for planning out your L&D for the semester/year. Here is the link again since it slipped passed many of you somehow.
Your team should be working with TL's and VP's to ensure that learning & development is happening in the proper way for members, not working directly with them (that's the TL/VP's job). Very simply/comprehensively, your team should be consulting on the implementation and quality of Team Standards.
Be sure to share all of the platforms and resources with your members so they know where to go to find out information! (cough cough HappyFox cough cough)
3. Monthly Reviews
Your second monthly reviews and one on one rounds should be going on in the coming week! In one on one's TL's/VP's should be checking in on performance/goal achievement per member, personal development progress, leadership development qualities progress, and thinking of how to move forward with those reflection insights.
Don't forget to ask yourself: how can I use all of the knowledge, skills, and perspective I learned at RoKS to do my job better?
Becoming An Expert
To sell something, you don't do extensive research on the other company, you do it on your own. Why?? Because that way you are sure to solve any problem they throw your way or manage any objection they may have.
So what does that mean...?
The trick here is that we are not the ones who are directly delivering the program - that is the job of the TL's and VP's. So really, our job is managing the Global Leader program.
But what does it mean to "manage" the program?
That means that we must equip and enable the people who are delivering it with the skills, tools, resources, knowledge, and perspective to deliver it effectively. And that means that we must become experts in all things Global Leader.
That includes:
- The 4 Leadership Development Qualities
- Each of those quality's 3 Defining Elements
- Inner & Outer Journey
- Each of the Team Standards
- The 6 Elements of the Global Learning Environment
- AIESEC Values
- AIESEC Way
- Training Techniques
- Learning Styles & Principles
You and your members should know those things inside and out. If you don't, now you know where to start. If you don't know where to go to find out thee things, first check HappyFox. If it's not there, try Google (it's so under-utilized in AIESEC, yet very powerful). And if you can't find something there, shoot me a message and I'll get it to you!
Once you know these things, you will be able to solve any problem and develop any person. All you have to do is add a little flare and creativity to make it your own :)
Let's Talk!
They will be 30 min each and we will discuss your current state, any challenges that you're facing, and how you as a person are doing :)
Please use the button below to book me for a 30 min google hangout sometime later this week or next week! I'll be following up with you if you don't book within the next day or two.
Thoughts From Your MCVP...
I see so much potential in each of you. What I'm not seeing though, is an increase in activity. I know that we've been caught up in recruitment and things like that, but now there's no excuse at all. It's time for us to really step up to the plate and push ourselves to think about how we can actually help our LC's grow.
But how, you ask??
Oh the thinks you can think up if only you try. There is so much that you have learned and so many resources at your disposal - the most important one being your own mind. You are all smart people. Now is your chance to push your mind and see how you can create strategy, trainings, and truly develop leaders.
What makes AIESEC so unique is our experiential learning model (other orgs have leadership development, other orgs do international exchange, and other orgs are youth led, but what brings it all together and becomes our "one thing" is that these experiences are practical and challenging because that's where the learning comes from. Leadership development and exchange operations are linked together and AIESEC is not one without the other because we learn from providing those opportunities to students and companies.
The new members you just recruited and the more experienced members that you've had for awhile will not complete their experiences this semester or continue next semester if they aren't active and out there selling or engaging with potential EP's/companies because they won't be developing and that's what the value proposition of the Global Leader program is.
AIESEC US is operating at a very low level currently: there are only 2 active sellers in the entire country (and they're VP's!), the only opens we're getting for OGX are just by accident because there is not enough outbound marketing happening, and half of the LC's have had no activity at all! (Crazy right?!?).
This is where we come in, this lack of activity is on us just as much as the exchange VP's. It's time to put our minds to the test and figure out how to increase activity, and fast! March is supposed to be all about matching, but there's not much to match right now :/
I'm calling on you TMers of the US, to help me crack the code for getting activity up and growing!
