Principal's Note
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. First and foremost, I want to express my sincere gratitude to all the parents who attended the Parent-Teacher Conferences in February. Your active involvement in your child's education is appreciated and contributes to their academic success. Looking ahead, I am excited to see many of you at Adult Night Out at the Broadlands on March 2nd. This will be a fun event filled with camaraderie and fun. Thank you in advance to the parents and members of the PTO who have worked so hard at putting on this event for all of us. I am also excited to share that the funds raised from such events will contribute to the building of our new playground, scheduled for installation this summer.
Additionally, I want to inform you that Forward Exam Testing for students in grades 3-6 will be taking place in the upcoming weeks. Fourth-grade students are scheduled to begin testing prior to Spring Break during the dates of March 19th, 20th, and 21st. Students in grades 3-6 will all be testing during the week of April 8th-12th. Please plan accordingly to ensure your students are present during this week. More details about the exam can be found below. Your continued partnership and involvement in your child's education are invaluable, and we appreciate your ongoing support.

Forward Exam Testing
The state of Wisconsin will be again participating in the Forward Exam this year. This is a summative assessment designed to gauge how well students are doing in relation to the Wisconsin Academic Standards.
Please refer to the dates below regarding when testing is taking place at PVES. It is important that students are present on testing dates. Your cooperation is appreciated to avoid scheduling vacations or appointments on these days.
Testing Dates
March 19, 20, 21 - Grade 4 Science and Social Studies Tests
April 8th-12th - Grades 3-6 ELA and Math
Preschool Screening - Tuesday, March 12th
Do you have concerns about your child’s development?
The Mukwonago Area School District will conduct preschool screening for children between the ages of 3-5 years old, or children not attending 5 year old kindergarten. Children must be residents of Mukwonago. If you have concerns about your child's development, you are encouraged to register. District staff will screen your child in the areas of cognitive development, personal/social skills, fine motor (small muscle), gross motor (large muscle), adaptive, speech/language, hearing, and vision. This screening is NOT 4K or 5K kindergarten screening. There is no cost, and takes approximately 45 minutes.

Classroom Environment
Each spring, in preparation for the following school year, teachers divide their classes into instructional groups designed to promote the most effective learning environment possible. These groups are based upon the teacher observation, current test results, curriculum grouping, student ability factors, the ratio of boys and girls, the individual ages of the students, other behavior and social concerns, and exceptional educational needs.
Please list any justifiable educational needs that you would like us to take into consideration when placing your child. Please take time to describe a classroom environment you feel would benefit your child academically, socially, or emotionally.
Careful consideration will be given to the makeup of the classroom as a whole in order to create a culture conducive to learning. We ask that discussions regarding teachers held in the public setting be avoided. These conversations may lead to misrepresentations, generalizations, and misinformation.
Please note that parent input is just one aspect of determining student placement. This form will be reviewed by the principal and current staff.
Completing this form does not automatically place your child in a particular classroom, but will be a factor in the decision.
To be considered, this form must be completed by Monday, April 1, 2024.
Intra-District Transfer Requests
Elementary schools are accepting intra-district transfer requests. Intra-district transfers are requests for a district resident student to attend a Mukwonago Area School District elementary school outside his or her attendance area.
Parents desiring a transfer for their son or daughter must complete a form and submit to the building principal of their current home school. Home school principals will notify the requested school of transfer papers. Transportation to attend a school outside of the home area is the responsibility of the parent.
Students who are already attending a school as an intra-district transfer do not need to re-apply; however, new family members would need to do so. If there are more requests than seats, students will be selected on a lottery basis. See School Board Policy IEB for the full set of criteria governing intra-district transfers.
Planned Absences
When at all possible, family trips should be planned so as to not interfere with a student's school attendance and education. If this cannot be arranged and a student will be absent from school for the purpose of a family trip. a student will only be excused for a maximum of ten (10) school days per school year (School Board Policy P05200).
Planned absence forms should be completed prior to your family's trip.

School Counselor Note
Dear Families,

This past month we celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Week at Prairie View. Students participated in Kindness Challenges, made friendship bracelets for students in the building, and engaged in various kindness activities during SEL and classroom lessons. Students and families also participated in a food drive for the Mukwonago Food pantry. In an effort to keep spreading kindness within in our school and our community, here are some other acts of kindness to try:
Compliment someone on an ability or character trait
Make a handmade card for a neighbor, teacher, or friend
Start a piggy bank to raise money for a cause
Send a postcard
Deliver baked goods to someone
Donate clothes or toys
Do a chore or classroom job without being asked
Send someone a care package
Donate books to the library
Share an inspirational quote with someone who needs it

Activities include scavenger hunt, photo booth, make-n-take crafts, PTO raffle baskets and a bake sale with proceeds benefiting the PVES Special Education.

Community Education Classes @ PVES
Prairie View's Art instructor, Ms. Engelking is offering an afterschool Needle Felt Class for children in grades 4-6. Open to first time students or experienced needle felters. During this class, students will learn how to make needle felted bean bags. You will use wool to needle felt designs onto bean bags that you can actually use. Each student will be able to create 4 bean bags and if time allows, they can create little animals or insects for fun. The class meets after school -Thursday, April 4, 11, 18, 25; 3:40-5:00 pm, in the Prairie View art room. Course Fee: $45. To register:

Calling all parents with newborns or toddlers! Music for Baby/Toddler and Parent is a creative program that will give your child an introduction to music through song, rhymes and movement. Prairie View music instructor, Riley Roberson, leads these 4 session classes starting on Monday, April 29. Camp Invention 2024
Spark your child’s curiosity and creativity with our all-new Camp Invention® program, Illuminate! At Rolling Hills Elementary from July 15 to July 19, campers going into grades 1-6 will collaborate with friends to take on fun, hands-on STEM challenges. From designing a light-up ball game to tackling global water challenges to starring in a prototyping game show, each experience adds up to an imagination-stretching, confidence-boosting summer.
