Physical Changes
A Physical Change is when material keeps its identity. It involves states of matter and energy. No new substance is created during a Physical Change. There may be a change in shape, size and sometimes in color.
Some examples of physical changes are down below
Ice Melting
An example of a physical change is Ice melting which involves a change from a solid to a liquid and the substances maintain the properties of water because the molecules never change.
Water boiling
Boiling water is an example of a physical change and not a chemical change because the water vapor still has the same molecular structure as liquid water.
Salt dissolving
The chemical makeup (hydrogen and oxygen) is not altered. When salt and sugar dissolve in water it is a physical change.
Salt dissolving is an example of a physical change
Experiment
In this experiment we will show how salt dissolving is a physical change by putting water in a beaker and adding a spoon of salt to it
Step 1
Get ingredients and supplies ready.
Step 2
Add water to the beaker.
Step 3
Add salt to the water and wait for the salt to dissolve.
The time it took
This is the time it took for the the salt to completely dissolve in the warm water
