The Tiger Times
Week of April 2nd through April 6th
Hello Tiger Family!
This week's #TESOurHouse comes from Abbe Laessig:
At the end of the video it states something that is truly impactful. It says, “A photograph is shaped more by the person behind the camera than what is in front of it.” Now lets change a couple of words around to say, “A child’s growth is shaped more by the teacher’s paradigm of them than the teaching itself.”
Teaching is SUCH a matter of the heart. Scripture says in Luke 6:45, “From the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.” Or even better, the Message version says, “You don’t get wormy apples off a healthy tree, nor good apples off a diseased tree. The health of the apple tells the health of the tree. You must begin with your own life-giving lives. It’s who you are, not what you say and do, that counts. Your true being brims over into true words and deeds.” And that right there friends is exactly the truth we need to remember.
We did not choose a profession that deals with numbers, merchandise, or services; we chose a profession that deals with p e o p l e. Living, breathing, sensitive, broken, moldable, and beautiful people.
Now sure these little beings can disrespect our boundaries, pull us in more directions than we could ever imagine, and sometimes make us feel depleted inside, but whenever we feel this way I encourage all of us to take some time of reflection, realign our beliefs, and teach from a position of love instead of anything else. Which is truly easier said than done. This takes work, reflection, and sometimes a good glass of wine.
Everybody’s hearts will get twisted from countless amounts of circumstances, but will you let frustration, exhaustion, pride or anything else rule your classroom? Or will it be a healthy paradigm that rules instead?
