Greetings from the Principal
Dear Riverview families,
I hope students had a restful long weekend, and that everyone enjoyed some dramatic postseason baseball! Today marks the beginning of second quarter, and grade cards for the first quarter will be available through Skyward at the end of the week. As you will recall, the district is transitioning to a standards-based report card, and the following questions are answered in this document located on the Riverview Elementary website:
- What are academic standards?
- Why do standards matter?
- Why is there a new report card?
Please remember that these grade cards are new to both parents and teachers. With any new adoption, it is natural for there to be some growing pains; elementary educators are continuing to receive professional development for this kind of reporting system, which is different than the ways they have been measured and reported student performance in the past. It is expected to see grading practices and reporting become more refined and defined throughout the year. Though the reporting system has changed, teachers will continue to collect evidence of learning in a variety of ways as they have always done, through careful observation, examination of student’s work, discussions, projects, performance tasks, quizzes and tests.
If you have any questions about your child's grade card or his/her performance, please do not hesitate to contact the classroom teacher or me so that we can assist you in best understanding your child's current level of performance.
Finally, please visit the Book Fair this week, located in the Library! It will be open Thursday 10:00 am - 8:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am - 8:00 pm. I look forward to seeing everyone Friday from 6:00-8:00 pm at Harvest Fest here at school! It will be a fun way to end the week and celebrate this beautiful season!
Make it a great week!
Beth Mildren
