ACAP Support
UNA-RIC ACAP Text-Dependent Writing
The Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) features a text-dependent writing (TDW) portion for second through eighth-grade students. This professional learning session will guide participants to a new deeper understanding of the TDW portion of the assessment. Participants will analyze the cognitive complexity of TDW and explore instructional strategies for student success. Participants will develop next steps for classroom instruction and take away information to guide long-term planning.

UNA-RIC An Overview of the ELA COS Standards 2021 – (Virtual statewide offering)

UNA-RIC Picking Priorities and Meeting Students Where They Are At - Individualized Behavior Approaches

This session will be dedicated to discussing behavior management and different proactive/reactive strategies to utilize in the school setting. Writing in all content areas is a necessity for students to achieve the level of literacy that will serve them best for not only standardized tests but also for life’s varied responsibilities. Building Resilient Communities in Deaf Education
Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) often encounter students who have experienced significant language delays or absence due to various factors such as navigational challenges within the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) system, limited Early Intervention services, and a scarcity of early family education and resources. Early access to quality language is crucial for the comprehensive development of all children, including cognitive and social-emotional growth, literacy, and life skills. This presentation addresses the challenge of supporting DHH students who arrive at school with inadequate language foundations amidst the demands of state curricula. Do your students ever ask: Why do I need to know this? or … When will I ever use this again? Classroom 2 Careers will help you answer those questions! C2C targets TEAMS teachers, middle and high school math and science teachers and counselors, as well as administrators (although others also attend) to help them better understand the levels of math and science and other workplace skills needed in today's industrial workplace. They tour various businesses and industries to see these skills in use first-hand and talk with employers about their specific workforce needs and the challenges they face with today's workers. Educators also visit Northwest-Shoals Community College's technical programs to hear from the instructors and students concerning the math and science skills required for the various technical skills represented, as well as the career paths for each skill set, salary possibilities and job opportunities in the region.

Alabama Educational Technology Conference (AETC)
The Alabama Educational Technology Conference (AETC) is our premier educational technology conference designed to empower educators with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to leverage technology effectively in the classroom. Held annually, this conference offers a comprehensive program featuring concurrent sessions, hands-on workshops, inspiring keynote presentations, and valuable networking opportunities.
At our conference, attendees will have the opportunity to customize their learning experience by selecting from a diverse array of concurrent sessions and hands-on workshops. Whether you're a novice or a seasoned tech enthusiast, there's something for everyone, with topics ranging from assistive technology to innovative approaches in instructional technology.
AETC plays a major role in assisting educators to increase their understanding of instructional technology in education. The College of Education and Human Sciences offers a variety of programs including Counselor Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Instructional Leadership, Secondary Education, Special Education, Teacher Leadership, Instructional Technology and Design, Exercise Science and Health Promotion, Sport and Recreation Management, and more.
