DELRAN HIGH SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT
Delran High School, an inclusive learning community, provides educational opportunities for intellectual development while valuing the importance of cultural diversity and tradition.
A Message from Mr. Finkle!
Our new Visitor Entry System is in place and working well; however, we need a little assistance from everyone to make this a smooth transition. The name on your Driver's License and/or Passport must match your contact name exactly in the Parent Portal. If you are using an abbreviated name in the Parent Portal, the system will reject you. For example, if the Parent Portal has you listed as John Doe and your legal name is Jonathan Doe, you will not be verified. We are asking all parents/guardians to log into the Parent Portal and change any abbreviated name to reflect the legal name that is printed on your license and/or passport. This applies to all emergency contacts that are listed in the Parent Portal who are authorized to pick up your child from school. Our goal is to make the system work smoothly for all parties involved. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Interim Grades
Interim Grades were posted on the Parent Portal TODAY (3/5/20). Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher(s), Guidance Counselor or Assistant Principal with questions or concerns.

Senior Trip
The Class of 2020 is so excited to go to Florida for the Senior Trip! The weather looks fantastic for all. For those who are concerned about COVID-19, we certainly understand. The Superintendent has convened a Task Force to address everyone's concerns. More communication will come from that committee shortly. At this time, we have worked with the Travel Company and they believe that Domestic travel is safe at this time. Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at any time.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me at dfinkle@delranschools.org or (856) 461-6100 x3005.

DHS HAPPENINGS
Congratulations Students of the Month
Congratulations to Ana Sobrinho and Kennedy Pettiford who were nominated to be our February Students of the Month!
Ana Sobrinho was nominated by Mrs. Karen Rau, Mr. Jason Pope, and Mrs. Susan Holmes-Garrity because of her academic performance, character, respect, leadership responsibility, and good work ethic. Ana is a fantastic history student. She is consistently earning top marks on assessments. She completes every assignment, has great attendance and is a wonderful role model for others. Ana is a leader among the Brazilian students and is always assisting others. She is a very positive person who always raises good clarification questions and is a positive influence on others.
Ana is a pleasure to have in class. She is attentive, insightful, helpful and diligent. She has achieved a high level of English language proficiency in a very short time due to her motivation and work ethic. Ana is truly an example, not only to the English Language Learners but to all students!
Kennedy Pettiford was nominated by Mr. Joseph Zobel because of her character, respect, leadership responsibility, and citizenship. Kennedy embodies what it is to be a true Delran Bear! Her care and kindness toward her fellow students cannot be ignored. Earlier in the year, Kennedy contacted Mr. Zobel in Guidance and asked if she could donate clothing and hygiene products to any student in need. The next day, Kennedy came in with bags of band new sweatpants, T-shirts, socks, undershirts, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and more! During the holidays, Kennedy once again approached Guidance to try and donate more items to her fellow students. Since that time, a student in need has been able to utilize her great gifts (never knowing who she was)! She does this, not for recognition, but because of her true love and care for the Delran community. I cannot thank her enough for her selflessness. Delran is a better place by having a student like Kennedy in it!
Congratulations Ana and Kennedy!

English Department
Amy Sepsi's Honors 11 American Lit and Comp Class
American Lit Honors: Students recently finished their Junior Research Papers where they synthesized sources in order to propose methods to address humanitarian issues. In the same course, students recently designed and created Transcendentalist bumper stickers as we read selections from Walden.
Katy Turse's Creative Writing Class
Her Creative Writing class is working on an interdisciplinary project with Mr. Palumbo's 8th-period Video/Production class. We are writing the script that they will use for their "10 Day Film Challenge" project. Our classes have met together in large and small groups to brainstorm ideas and then collaborate on necessary details. We are currently in the writing process, and we are excited to see what Mr. Palumbo's class will do with our script. Mr. Rafter and his team will be creating a musical score for the video as well. We are all very excited. Click here for the link to the 10 Day Film Challenge.
Laura Schreiner/Kristi Cavanaugh's Class
Ms. Schreiner and Mrs. Cavanaugh's Forms of Literature and Composition freshman classes celebrated "Read Across America" all-day on Monday, March 2nd, with book talks including selections of fiction, nonfiction, historical fiction, and nonfiction, fairy tales, travel guides, geography, human interest, memoirs, biographies, autobiographies, instructional guides, true crime, books that were turned into movies, and books that were turned into Broadway shows.
Dana Obst's Class

Social Studies Department
Below you can find the content that is being studied in core Social Studies courses.
Lesson & Learning Activity Highlights
United States History I
Students in Mr. Pope’s United States History I classes completed a “digital breakout” activity based on the life of Frederick Douglas. In order to complete the “breakout”, students were asked to use innovative web resources in addition to primary source analysis to unlock codes based on content. This activity served to engage all learners’ multiple intelligences in a cooperative learning environment!
World History
Students in World History classes researched the key inventions of the Industrial Revolution to evaluate its function and impact on/contribution to society at the time and now. Groups came together to jigsaw their inventions and create a timeline in which they analyzed how the inventions pieced together. They were then asked to inject events into their timeline to further evaluate the interplay of inventions and events of the Industrial Revolution.
AP Human Geography
As part of their Agriculture unit, AP Human Geography students used the global chocolate industry as a case study on supply chains, economic relationships, and consumer food choice movements. They also applied the concept of terroir - the unique influence of local geography on the way a food tastes to try to identify samples of single-origin chocolate from around the world.
Summer Enrichment Opportunities

Seniors and Juniors can see upcoming college visitations and request to attend directly in Naviance.
All students should be building their personal activity resume.
Ask your student to share with you what they are doing in Naviance.
