This Is How We Lakeview
September 2021 Edition: Volume 4
Welcome Fall!
With the changing of the season and the weather, the classroom temperatures can vary within the building. Please make sure that your student is dressing in layers and/or has a sweatshirt, sweater, jacket, etc in their locker in case they need it.
I know that you received several COVID-19 building letters from me this week. If your student needs to quarantine due to being a close contact, please have them reach out to their teachers via email and check their Google Classrooms. Teachers are posting work daily that the students need to be working on while they are home. Along with the assignments, they are posting videos and links to materials that will help them keep up with the class while they are out. Please double check with your student to make sure they are keeping up with their work. If you have any questions on assignment, please reach out to the teachers. The expectation is that students who are out in quarantine are treating those days like virtual work days and are returning to school with their assignments completed.

Panorama Survey begins October 12th
We know there is more to our students than just their grades. We want to support our students Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) so they can develop the skills they need to be successful in life. Our Panorama survey helps us understand the needs of our students so we can create an environment that is going to help them succeed. Please see additional information about the Panorama Survey in the PDFs attached here.

THE POWER OF ‘LIKE’: A single ‘like’ can make a social media post more popular and even affect how teens behave
Some of our teams used this article last week with students during E/I to help address our bathroom issues. In this informational text, Alison Pearce Stevens discusses various studies that explore how people are influenced by social media posts and “likes.” This may be a good talking point for you and your student. Recent Updates
This coming Tuesday, Mr. Baptist and Mr. Max will meet with the Leadership Team students for the first time this year. Students will engage in discussions about their ideas about how to better our school, how to include all students, and action steps we can take moving forward. Next Friday’s Community Corner will have specific information as to the goals for the Leadership Team this year.
This week has been better related to bathroom behavior and hallway behavior. Thank you for having those conversations with your students and reiterating the expectations we have of our students to respect each other, our staff, and our building. We still had a few bathroom issues this past week, and we will continue to monitor bathrooms and hallways on a regular basis and address individual students’ behavior.
This Monday, we will start up our iReady (and ALEKs and Membean) Challenge for the year for our E/I classrooms. All students have weekly goals to meet with how many iReady/ALEKs lessons to pass and/or how many minutes to complete for Membean. At the end of each week, we look at the E/I class with the highest number of lessons passed per student, and that class gets a visit from the iReady treat trolley. The top three students on each team also will get a visit from the trolley. If any families would like to donate snacks (chips, bite-size candy, etc) or fidgets, please let Ben Baptist know so he can facilitate that.
If any families are interested in being a part of our PBIS: Social Justice sub-group, please let Ben Baptist (Lead Assistant Principal) know at ben_baptist@plsd.us, or call him at (614) 830-2281. We would love to have more family involvement with PBIS this year to help us shape our work with our students as we work toward our goal of ensuring that every student feels welcomed and valued in our building.
Has your student done something awesome or noteworthy? Do you want to celebrate them and their accomplishments? In future Community Corners, we hope to highlight more of our students through the Student Spotlight feature. We have updated the Family Feedback Form to include an area where you can share the details that you want to highlight about your student. Check it out!
