Fourth Grade Visits White's Foodliner
On Thursday, December 7th, the Central Elementary fourth grade classes traveled to White’s Foodliner for a grocery store field trip. In math, fourth graders have been working on decimals and money skills, even creating their own recycled grocery store in their STEM room to simulate shopping, budgeting, and working with money. Taking it a step further, Mrs. Konda’s student teacher, Ms. Parish, created an awesome math/science lesson about the ingredients in our everyday foods, looking at how healthy foods are based on sugar and fat content. While at the grocery store, students divided into teams and explored different sections such as ice cream section, peanut butter, salad dressing, and breakfast cereals. Students compared products based on fat content, sugar content, and prices. There was a lot of discussion between teachers and students while comparing these grocery items. It’s safe to say they all learned that not everything is as healthy as it may be made to appear! The fourth grade students did an amazing job at the store. A HUGE thank you to White’s Foodliner for allowing our fourth graders to have this experience!

LMS Students Participate in Honor Band
On February 10, a group of our top 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band students attended the 2024 Southern Plains Honor Band in Andover. Within seven different honor bands, Students rehearsed all day with other top students from around and nearby Wichita and performed for the public in the afternoon.
Many of our students were leaders in their sections, providing support and confidence to their bands. Several of our students received compliments and rewards for demonstrating good habits, posture, and knowing proper technical skills on their instrument!
Congrats to these students for going above and beyond and representing our school well!
Lyons Middle School Medals at League Scholars Bowl Tournament
The Lyons Middle School Scholar's Bowl team demonstrated outstanding intellectual prowess at the league championship held in Halstead on February 20th. The competition showcased the academic excellence of Lyons Middle School's scholars.

LHS & LMS Concert Bands and Instrumentalists Excel!
The HS and MS bands have both had a great deal of success in the last couple weeks at our last CKL Festivals! Our soloists in particular have been putting a lot of work into their pieces before or after school every week to prepare them. Mrs. Brooks and Mr. Brinson have been highly involved with me helping give lessons to all of these students, so a huge thanks goes to them! Also a huge thanks to Jacque Oborny and Megan Giorgetti for being such great accompanists! Congrats to these students and their accomplishments!
