3RD GRADE SPOTLIGHT
Third grade has had a busy couple of weeks! Ruth from Beaver Creek Reserve came to visit on April 26 to teach the third graders about owls as part of their owl unit for science. Students were very excited to meet Luna, a barred owl, who lives at Beaver Creek due to an injury that prevents her from returning to the wild. Third graders also had a great time dissecting owl pellets.
On May 3, third graders went on a field trip to the Chippewa Valley Museum and Paul Bunyan Camp. They had fun learning about the Chippewa Valley's past including artifacts from our farming and logging history. They especially enjoyed seeing the replicas of the loggers' bunkhouse and cookhouse. Many parents also were able to attend, and it ended up being a terrific day for everyone!

Summer Reading
Last week the Elementary School Library sent out an infographic that helps explain the impact that the summer slide can have on your child when it comes to reading. The infographic also highlighted some strategies parents can use to help keep their children reading over the summer, including some library resources that are still available to students.
This week, I would like to share some video links that will help parents learn to access those library resources with their students over the summer. Here are some quick tutorials that will walk you through how to access tools like Sora, Biblionasium, TrueFlix, and various library databases. Click on the links below to learn how you can help your child login to these resources from home or anywhere with an Internet connection.
The Elementary School Library would also like to remind parents to follow them on Twiter @CSDLibraries and to use #cadottreads to find summer reading recommendations, reading challenges, and to share where and how their children are reading all throughout the summer!

Head Start 3-Year-Old Classroom Within the Cadott School District Elementary
CESA 11 Head Start will be opening a 3 yr old classroom within the Cadott elementary building this fall. The classroom will be able to offer 17 income-eligible 3 year olds an age appropriate early education experience. Along with the educational aspect of the program, family services, health, and nutrition are also key elements. Head Start was developed in 1964 as a part of then President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty. Experts were called on to create a comprehensive child development program to help communities support lower income families and children access to quality early education services.
While there are income guidelines for enrollment in this classroom, there are also some factors that can qualify a child/family regardless of income: being a foster child, receiving SSI, and receiving W-2 are some of those factors. Selection is based on need/priority points so please contact Kari Roshell at 715-667-3104 (Stanley-Boyd Head Start center) for more information or to fill out enrollment paperwork. CESA 11 Head Start is excited to be able to offer this classroom within the Cadott School District!
