Solar Eclipse Safety - A Message from the Superintendent's Office
Dear Piscataway Families,
Our area will be experiencing a solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, between 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. We want to make sure you have the information necessary to keep yourselves and your children safe, particularly because this will happen on a school day and around our dismissal times.
- NEVER look directly at the sun, even during a solar eclipse. The harmful effects of the sun’s rays can permanently damage your eyes.
- Use ISO-certified glasses when looking at an eclipse. Be sure you get them from a reputable source and be cautious of counterfeit ISO certification that may fail to meet the necessary quality and safety standards.
Parents of students in Grades K-3 will receive more information from our schools about specific dismissal protocols for April 8. Talk to your children to be sure they understand the seriousness of looking at an eclipse. It is a wondrous natural phenomenon, but can be dangerous if not handled correctly.
Please see more safety guidelines in the attached documents from our Science Department and our district insurance provider.
Thank you and stay safe!
