We'll have a big box in our hallway for any donations the kids would like to bring in. If you have any questions please contact Ms. Gribbin. Thank you!
Update on our adopted classroom!
Hello!
Thank you for adopting us! I am so thankful that you are able to help. Here's a background on our small town:
We live in a one stop light town called Mauriceville. It's the last town on the border of Texas and Louisiana. We have 1 elementary and 1 middle school. Our sister schools (the Little Cypress side of our district) has the other elementary and middle schools, as well as the jr.
high and high school. 4 out of the 6 schools took on water. We have about 600 students in pre-k to 5th grade (Can you imagine trying to find somewhere to house all those sweet babies?!). Harvey hit, and it continued to rain on our town for about 24 hours without stopping. Our rivers were too full with water, so they released the dams, breaking levees, causing flooding our town has never seen. 90% of homes and small businesses flooded. 80% of those places do not have flood insurance. In pictures, our school had water almost to the rooftops. When we were able to go inside, we had 1-3 feet in different areas of our newly remodeled, and partially newly constructed buildings, included a brand new gym. We have lost all but one book in our library, and all the furniture that we had will be throw away.
But, we are gearing up for our best year ever! We will have class in a local church, shared with our sister schools.
I am one of 4 second grade teachers, and I am Mrs. Powell. We do need books!! Most of us lost our bottom shelf, if not 2 shelves, of books. One teacher lost her entire listening library. If we cannot use them in second grade, I will pass them on to our librarian, where the estimated cost of replacing our library is $250,000. That's a lot of books!
Would you like me to send you some pictures of our town to share with your students?
We appreciate your school reaching out to us, and we are so thankful that we have a wonderful support system of educators on our side!

Arriving On Time Insures a Smooth Start for Students
Thank you for insuring your child is at school on time each day. Arriving on time allows your student to have a smooth start to their day. Students are welcome to arrive as early as7:15 (not before) each morning and can go to the cafeteria for supervision until the first bell rings at 7:30. The late bell rings at 7:40. Students arriving after 7:40 are considered late. After students are late five times, students will need to come in early to make-up seat time. Parents will receive a letter from Mrs. McEnery alerting them to this situation and will need to be at school at 7:20 on the designated day. Documentation of students being late will begin on Monday, September 11.
