STSE ASSIGNMENT
Xbox (Ayaan)
What is an Xbox?
What specific elements make up the Xbox?
Well, most people think it's only made up of plastic by seeing the outer surface but the actual is inside of Xbox 360. There are metals in it such as:
- Gold (Au), plating on USB ports, Motherboard and Laser.
- Silver (Ag), IC chips have got silver plating on them.
- Copper (Cu), the fans wires and the generator.
- Palladium (Pd), Storage area.
- Aluminium (Al), Protection for other elements.
All of the above Metals help the console work, in a proper way and give us an amazing experience of entertainment.
Where specifically do these elements come from in the world?
1. Gold (Au): Gold is found on every continent on Earth, except Antarctica. The largest amounts of gold on Earth are found in the oceans - but it is not yet feasible to extract gold from seawater. Usually people spend money on gold mining.
2. Silver (Ag): Silver is found in lead, zinc, and copper ore deposits. A full two-thirds of the silver resources in the world are found in association with these other metal ores. The remaining third is found in association with deposits of gold. The most important ore mineral of silver is argentite (Ag2S, silver sulfide). In the United States, Nevada is the leading producer of silver where it is a by-product of gold mining. Other significant world producers of silver are Mexico, Peru, Chile, and Canada. A number of other countries produce smaller amounts of silver.
3. Copper (Cu): Copper is found in many parts of the world. It usually comes from copper ore, but small amounts are occasionally found ("native copper") in distorted cubic crystal chunks. Keweenaw Peninsula near Lake Superior in Michigan is one of the most likely places to find native copper!! Ore is first mined, then put through a series of processes to refine and purify the copper. The USA is the second largest producer of copper in the world. The largest copper mine is found in Utah (Bingham Canyon). Other major mines are found in Arizona, Michigan, New Mexico and Montana. In South America, Chile, the world's largest producer, and Peru are both major producers of copper. Large copper deposits are also found in Canada, the Ural Mountains of Russia, and parts of Africa.
4. Palladium (Pd): Discovered in 1803 by Wollaston, Palladium is found with platinum and other metals of the platinum group in placer deposits of Russia, South America, North America, Ethiopia, and Australia. It is also found associated with the nickel-copper deposits of South Africa and Ontario. Palladium's separation from the platinum metals depends upon the type of ore in which it is found.
5. Aluminium (Al): Although aluminum is the most abundant metal on the earth's crust, it is never found free in nature. All of the earth's aluminum has combined with other elements to form compounds. Two of the most common compounds are alum, such as potassium aluminum sulfate (KAl(SO4)2ยท12H2O), and aluminum oxide (Al2O3). About 8.2% of the earth's crust is composed of aluminum.
Aluminium! what is it actaully?
Aluminium (Al): It is a silvery-white, ductile metallic element, the most abundant metal on earth's crust but found only in combination, chiefly in bauxite. Having good conductive and thermal properties, it is used to form many hard, light, corrosion-resistant alloys. Xbox uses this element to protect the interior of the system as it is hard and corrosion-resistant.
Some physical properties: The Physical properties of Aluminum are the characteristics that can be observed without changing the substance into another substance. Physical properties are usually those that can be observed using our senses such as Color, Ductility, Boiling point, Melting point, Density and Hardness.
Some chemical properties: They are the characteristics that determine how it will react with other substances or change from one substance to another. The better we know the nature of the substance the better we are able to understand it. Chemical properties are only observable during a chemical reaction. Reactions to substances may be brought about by changes brought about by burning, rusting, heating, exploding, tarnishing etc.
