Message from Mr. Burns
Hi Wims Families,
Wow! We have some talented students at Wims. On Friday evening, we saw singing, dancing, various musical instruments, rubix cube demonstrations, gymnastics, and much more on display. We also have some very. talented community members who made sure we had an amazing night. A special shout out to Mr. and Mrs. Johnson (Bella's parents) for organizing and facilitating the event. Also, thank you to all the parents and staff that helped ensure it was a great event:)
Have a great evening!
-Mr. Burns

Dear Wildcat Families-,
Wow - just wow. I think anyone in attendance at Friday evening’s Wims Got Talent Variety Show shares this sentiment. It wasn’t just that the performances were amazing (they were) or that we have some super talented students at Wims (we do), but I am stunned at the confidence of our students to get on stage and perform their hearts out in front of 250 people. CONGRATULATIONS to the amazing Wildcats who performed on Friday. I am so proud of every one of you. But I really need to take a moment and ask you to recognize Kaydene and Irvin Johnson. What you may not know is that Variety Show isn’t just one evening. It’s six - that’s right, SIX, between auditions, rehearsals, dress rehearsal, and the show. And that doesn’t include the countless hours of preparation to get ready for each of those six nights. Thank you from all of us, Kaydene and Irvin, for sharing your special talents with our community and pouring your whole hearts into making this an amazing evening for Wims, down to every last detail. I’d also like to recognize Luz Veizaga, our stage manager, and of course Mrs. Ioli for her engaging emcee abilities. And how about that Barbie-themed performance from our Wims Staff?! While our teachers were incredible, we all know that Mr. Burns stole the show with his dance moves. If you weren’t in attendance, this is one to keep on your radar for next year as it just keeps getting better. Thank you to all who attended and volunteered - your support of our performers was incredible. I hope that many, many memories were created.
Please mark your calendars for our May PTA meeting on Tuesday 5/7 at 6:30 in the Media Center - we will be electing a new Treasurer and Secretary for the 2024-26 term, and we need the vote of our members. This is an important meeting as a dues-paying member, so please do try to attend.
ATTENTION 5TH GRADE FAMILIES: Time is running out to order your yard sign! The first pickup date is tomorrow, Monday 4/30 between 4-6pm. Whether you are picking up a sign or not, we will also be offering an opportunity to get your spirit wear before the school year ends! Come and check out our new blue tie-dye design. More details below.
The school year is really winding down and we are digging deep into our energy reserves - but we aren’t done. Please read on to learn how you can still help the PTA, students, and staff this 2023-24 school year.
Have a Wonderful Wildcat Week!

BOGO BOOK FAIR & DONUTS FOR GROWN-UPS
Book Fair is back - and it’s Buy One, Get One FREE! This is the last chance to get great books in the hands of our students to read over the summer. Book Fair will run between June 3-7 with both day and evening shopping hours. Volunteers will be needed to make the fair a success. If you have not volunteered at Book Fair before, come give it a go- it’s a lot of fun to help the kids. Please also save the date for Wednesday, June 5 at 8:00am for Donuts for Grown-ups! Students are invited to treat their favorite grown-ups (mom, dad, grandparent, neighbor, aunt, etc!) to donuts, coffee, and juice - and then perhaps they’ll treat their favorite student to an exclusive shopping trip to the Book Fair! More information on both Book Fair and Donuts will be shared soon.
HELP NEEDED FOR 5th GRADE PROMOTIONS

We have nowhere near the volunteers needed for this special night.

Community Corner
Instructional Equity Workshop: The Montgomery County Council of PTA’s (MCCPTA) Curriculum Committee is hosting an Instructional Equity webinar via Zoom on Thursday, May 2 from 7-9 pm to help caregivers and teachers learn how curriculum and instruction can better support our students for their futures. In 2023, only half of all tenth graders in the county passed the English 10 MCAP exam. Even at our most affluent schools, only half of students receiving FARMS passed. At our highest poverty schools, only one third of students passed the test.
Please join us to understand "The Opportunity Myth" and the four critical resources to help students prepare for college and career, learn the important role of instructional materials in creating equity and what this looks like in reading and literacy classes, and get an update on exciting developments in K-5 Reading in MCPS and explore current 6-8 and 9-12 literature courses. Attendees will hear from MCPS leaders and have an opportunity to share what you're seeing in schools and walk away with clear action steps to advocate for strong literacy experiences across K-12. Let’s make a difference together. Register here.
Calling All Cheerleaders! Clarksburg Sports Association (CSA) is announcing registration for their Fall Cheer Season! Registration will open on May 1 for the Fall Season of CSA Cheer. Teams will practice cheers, stunts, tumbling, jumps, and dance adapted by our coaching team which consists of volunteer parents and CHS cheerleaders. Please visit CSA Cheer’s website for more information or contact Carson or Rachael (Cheer Commissioners) for more information.
Hallie Wells Middle School Workgroup and Interest Form: Leadership at Hallie Wells has created an opportunity to engage collaboratively in building safe spaces for students in our community through workgroups.
