Farm Family Update
November 23, 2020
Dear Farm Families,
As we head toward Thanksgiving, a holiday based on the concept of gratitude, I want to express my deep appreciation to our “Farm Family”- parents, students, teachers and staff. Each day of 2020 seems to have brought with it new challenges, hurdles and mind-bending realities. Our “Now Normal” has caused us to be extremely flexible and patient as we have faced so many changes to the educational environment this school year. We are doing our best to keep each other safe, follow the guidelines and carry on educating and supporting our eagles during these difficult times. During this time of Thanksgiving, I want to share my gratitude and thank you for your patience and support during the beginning months of the 2020 school year.
For many of us, Thanksgiving won’t feel the same this year. We have all been asked to be vigilant as we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, or any time that we are out in the community, by following all the recommended health mitigation strategies that have been identified by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to minimize the spread of COVID-19. As recommended, my wife and I won’t be gathering with extended family this year because we have decided not to travel back to Pittsburgh. I find this difficult, but I also want to do my best to keep myself and everyone safe. We will continue to maintain our traditions of stuffing and cooking the turkey, watching football (HERE WE GO STEELERS!!!), and putting up our Christmas trees and decorations. This year we will teach our parents about FaceTime and share the day with them virtually. We definitely hope that this will not become a tradition that we will be keeping. Although we must change our regular holiday plans, we will keep in mind the significance of the day and continue to reflect on the things for which we are thankful.
At this moment, many families have asked and I have not heard of any changes happening to our schedule after the holiday. However, don't forget that the school system will continue to evaluate our local health data during the Thanksgiving holiday. I want to remind you that it is important for our families to have plans in place in case it is decided that we have to move from a face-to-face/hybrid learning model to only a virtual instructional model.
On behalf of the staff of Ferry Farm, I would like to thank you for your continued support and wish you all a safe and happy holiday! Stay Protected, Safe, and Healthy!

Goodbye November and Hello December
Current plans are for us to return back to a hybrid/virtual model after the holiday. Monday, November 30th will be an asynchronous instructional day and the students will learn on their own. Students will then resume synchronous learning by coming back to school or learning virtually on December 1st based on their selected schedule. At school face to face learning:
- Team A on Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:00 - 11:00
- Team B on Thursday and Friday, 8:00 - 11:00
SCPS Face Covering Policy
All students and staff shall wear face coverings at all times on school board property as developmentally appropriate unless exempted due to a medical condition. The Centers for Disease Control provides exemptions for young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or anyone who is unconscious or incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
When appropriate, face shields will be utilized by staff and/or students to meet student and staff needs. Employees who work in individual offices and areas may remove the face mask when they are alone.
