What We're Learning
Literacy
Please remind your child to bring their "Book Bag" back to school each day. We will be using these books during our guided reading groups. Thank you!
Please be sure your child reads their sight word book to you during the week. Students will earn a Timbertail Token for returning the book with 3 signatures! This book will become part of their read to self book box.
Word of the Week: for
Writing
In Writer's Workshop, we have been focusing on continuing to develop and write narrative stories. Students are working hard to hear all the sounds in words, so that other people can read their stories. We are also focusing on telling the story across our fingers - telling what happens first, next and last in our stories. Next week we will focus on learning to talk through our pictures to help tell the who, what and where of our stories.
Math
5- group and comparing numbers using the equal and not equal signs. We have also been reviewing the concept of sorting and classifying items based on size, shape, color and other similar attributes.
Content
- a force puts an object in motion.
- a force is a push or a pull on an object.
- 4 types of motion: circular, straight, zig zag and vibration.
Next week we will use materials to conduct experiments with each type of motion.
Other
Please be sure to send a winter coat, gloves or mittens and a hat with your child to school everyday! It would also be helpful to have these items labeled with your child's name. If possible, please send all winter gear in a sturdy bag with handles.
A BIG thank you goes out to Mr. Montgomery for visiting the Kindergarten students on Friday to talk about his job as a Packers coach. We have been learning about communities and community helpers, so this was a great experience for the children! Mr. Montgomery shared lots of great information, and the kids had many questions to ask as well.
Schedules and Class Calendar
The calendar has students listed who may bring one item for show and tell on Fridays. I will rotate through 4 students every Friday that we have a full day of school. Please make sure you are comfortable sending the item to school. Please label the item with the student's name. Thank you!
The calendar also has a student listed on Monday as the, "Star of the Week." I will send home the forms that need to be completed and brought back to school on the Monday that the student is assigned, "Star of the Week."
Our class will be taking a field trip to Barkhausen on January 19th. Mrs. Sharkey's class will be attending the field trip with Mrs. Adams class. There will be limited space on the bus. We are asking that parents who are planning to join us for the field trip, to either follow the bus from Forest Glen, or meet us at Barkhausen at 9:00 a.m. We will be eating cold lunches upon our return, so please remember to pack a cold lunch for you child on Tuesday, January 19th. Thank You!!
Birthdays
If your child has a summer birthday, please contact me to let me know when you would like to celebrate and I will check to see if that day works for us!
Snack
Please send crackers/pretzels that we may use as a classroom snack in the morning. Thank you!
