2. Shifts in Science Instruction: Investigate, Evaluate, and Reason Scientifically
Our new science standards provide an important opportunity to improve not only science education but also student achievement. Louisiana's new vision for science learning focuses on a deeper understanding of content as well as application of content so that students have the knowledge and skills needed to be success in the future.
Scientists do more than learn about science; they “do” science. Science instruction must integrate the practices, or behaviors, of scientists and engineers as they investigate real-world phenomenon and design solutions to problems.

3. Litter Education: It's the Law!
Keep Louisiana Beautiful has created a K-5 environmental education curriculum that focuses on litter, pollution, recycling, and environmental stewardship to protect our watershed and the Gulf. This curriculum is available for download, complete with lesson plans, activity sheets, and student standards. They haven't finished updating the standards from GLEs to LSSS yet.

4. Louisiana Connectors for Students with Significant Disabilities
The Special Education Content Team will host a webinar to preview the Science Connectors for Students with Significant Disabilities. This training will be a continuation of the work we began with the full-day cohort at the Teacher Leader Summit in June and the cohort webinar in October. Previous attendance in the cohort training is not a requirement for participation. The webinar will take place on Monday evening, March 19, from 6:00-6:45 p.m. Simply accept this invitation to the webinar and you will be fully registered for the training.
Note: This is a great professional learning opportunity for both our regular ed teachers and teachers who service students with exceptionalities.
