ABJ Scots Week at a Glance (SWAG)
April 2 - 5, 2024
The great mystery of our Easter faith is that Christ has died, He has Risen, and Christ will come again. As we participate in this joyful celebration, we acknowledge that Jesus’ resurrection gives us hope. His victory over sin and death offers us a new commitment.
We must witness the hope that Jesus’ resurrection brings to our world that seeks a reason to hope again. In the midst of our difficulties, weaknesses, and fears, God sends Jesus to be our hope. We must renew each day this divine life offered to us in Jesus’ resurrection.
In Jesus’ resurrection, all humanity gets a second chance. We are all called to be transformed by this Easter joy. In Jesus’ resurrection, we see how good triumphs over evil, and all creation is made new in the light that shines through our lives.
We must be open to the power of the risen Christ each day. Jesus’ life must become a model for us of self-giving and self-sacrifice. May this Easter season bring us joy and hope as we rise with Christ in the newness of life.

FAITH INTEGRATION
Congratulations and Thank You!
Congratulations to Ryana Nandlall, Riley Salewski, and Georgia Slaby for completing the Rite of Christian Initation of Adults (RCIA) through the Chosen Sacramental Preparation Program at ABJ! Your completion of this program marks a significant milestone in your spiritual journey, and we rejoice with you as you embrace your new life in Christ.
Special thanks also to our Chaplains- Miss Fichter and Miss Lakusta- for sponsoring and leading students through Chosen sacramental preparation. It is truly a testament to the impact and value of Catholic education and us as a school community when we have three high school students commit to joining the Catholic faith!
Thank you also to the many students and staff who attended masses at OLPH over Holy Week and Easter, and particularly on Good Friday as this was an ABJ-led mass. Your presence and participation at mass demonstrates your commitment to the Catholic faith and reinforces the importance of religious practice and community involvement.
Much gratitude to the ABJ choir who provided the beautiful and solemn music ministry at Good Friday mass.

LEARNERS AND LEARNING
Registrations for 2024-2025
In preparation for next school year, students currently in grades 9 and 10 will be asked to book one-on-one meetings with a counsellor, administrator, or a member of our learning support team to review course selections and ensure that students are being set up for success. Beginning this week, counsellors will run sessions with classes to share course information and distribute course selection forms. Information on how to book appointments will be sent out to parent/guardians via email this week. This is the primary way that 2024-2025 course registrations for students currently in grades 9 and 10 will be taking place so it is important for appointments to be booked.
Please refer to the ABJ School Handbook for course information. We are offering a variety of new options for the 2024-2025 school year!

Outdoor Ed 20 Zoo Field Trip
Ukrainian Creative Arts
Prior to spring break, students in Mr. Sych's Ukrainian Creative Arts 9 class wrote pysanky. The psyanka symbolizes the release of the earth from the shackles of winter into spring. The egg brings a promise of new hope, new life, health and prosperity.
Pysanky are typically made to be given to family members and respected outsiders. To give a pysanka is to give a symbolic gift of life, which is why the egg must remain entire. Each of the designs and colors on the pysanka is likely to have a deep, symbolic meaning. Traditionally, pysanky designs are chosen to match the character of the person to whom the pysanka is to be given. Pysanky are typically displayed prominently in one's home.
Leadership 9
Leadership 9 took part in a gratitude scavenger hunt before the break. One of the tasks was to write thank you cards for staff, which will undoubtedly be very much appreciated!

Attendance Reminder
Did you know that our school has team meetings every week that review the academic and attendance issues of each grade level? As we are several weeks into the new semester it is very important that families take the time to keep us informed. Please ensure you are informing the school each time your child is absent, ill or late. We do not wish to have the auto callouts emailing and phoning your home, but if there are unverified absences this will continue to occur. Staff will email when absences start to exceed certain thresholds. If you are having trouble with your Parent PowerSchool account please call our front office at 780-467-2121 or email: abj@eics.ab.ca
