As we navigate through this week, let us embrace the spirit of curiosity, empowerment, and belonging. This week, let's take a moment to celebrate each other and the incredible work that we do. Shelly Ehrke, Teacher
Place of Birth: Cleveland, Ohio
Years at Lincoln: 21
Favorite Educator: If I had to name only one favorite, it would have to be Miss Aluscheff, my 3rd grade teacher. I knew at that age that I wanted to be a teacher some day, and she went out of her way to encourage and support me in that dream. In retrospect, I had to have been SO annoying; always asking if I could help her grade papers or decorate the classroom after school or have extra worksheets so I could "practice teaching" my little brother. Miss Aluscheff always made me feel special and like I could do anything I put my mind to. We stayed in touch all these years, until she passed away this past summer. I'm so grateful that I was lucky enough to have her in my life!
Fun Fact: When traveling, if I come across a statue, I will almost always pose with it for a silly picture.
Jenn Burns, Teacher
Place of Birth: Boston, Massachusetts
Years at Lincoln: 9
Favorite Educator: My high school history teacher was also my softball coach. His passion for history was contagious and his love for sports transformed a group of young women into all-star team. As he sipped his lifetime supply of Tab soda, he supported me to be my best! It was also super cool that he was a contestant on Jeopardy! He also has a lifetime supply of Rice-A-Roni. He was understanding, demanding, and a great motivator. Mr. Gramling brought my softball game from pathetic to decent with the confidence of David Ortiz. My love of history is a direct result of his influence.
Fun Fact: I have eight siblings! :)
Middle School Athletics-Winter Sports
Next week, Girls 7/8 and Boys 7/8 teams will compete in the FIYA league playoffs! We're hoping they can bring another championships trophy back to Lincoln Middle School!
March Madness!
Lunch Time!
We are thrilled to share the fantastic success of our "March Madness" basketball tournament during lunchtime! 🏀✨
A huge shoutout our Security Officer- Curtis Jelks for coordinating this and to all the students who took part in the tournament. This tournament gives students a chance to connect and have fun during lunch. If you're not busy during lunch, come on by and cheer on our students!
Health Relationship Seminars
Seminars are continuing this week!
We wanted to inform you that we have invited two speakers from a local nonprofit organization to come to our school and provide students with a presentation on healthy relationships.
The presenters are coming to us from Sojourn, which is a domestic violence organization based here in Santa Monica. In addition to their survivor services, Sojourn also has a robust Outreach and Education department. One of the primary services offered by Sojourn’s O&E program is a healthy relationships curriculum for K-12 students, which they will be presenting on to our 6th, 7th, & 8th grade students starting next week.
The learning objectives for Sojourn’s Healthy Relationships training for middle school students
include:
1) Understanding what makes a relationship healthy, unhealthy, or abusive
2) What emotional intelligence is, why it’s important in relationships, how to practice it
3) What resources are available for those who might be experiencing abuse or harm.
Please be aware that the Sojourn team always shares a thorough disclaimer at the start of each
presentation to alert students to potentially sensitive or triggering information that will be
discussed. If you have any questions or concerns about Sojourn or their curriculum, please do
not hesitate to reach out.
To learn more about Sojourn and their services, please check out their website.
