What are we learning this week?
Students are determining the value of a collection of coins and bills. They need to be able to write the value using the dollar symbol, decimal, and/or the cent symbol.

Assignment #1:
Counting Money Activity:
Gather change and dollar bills you have around the house, put it inside of a cup or bag. Reach in and grab some. Place it in front of you and count how much you grabbed. Return the money to the cup or bag and repeat.
*If you do not have change or dollars, draw some on pieces of paper, cut it out, and place inside of the cup or bag.

Character Relationships in Literary Nonfiction
Assignment #1
DISCLAIMER: when the video gets to the 'What is Literary Nonfiction' you will need to turn the volume down.
Assignment #2:
Choose a few non-fiction texts from your library, Epic, Scholastic.com, etc. As you read, stop and jot:
-Do the minor characters in your story help or frustrate the main character as they try to solve their big problem?
-Think about how your character treats other characters in the story. Jot about what kind of person this makes them.
-Think about how your main character treats people differently in different parts of the story. Jot about why.

Reread your narrative draft for a focus on revising. Follow the steps to add more detail
First the Writer will stop and think: Where is the setting of my story?
As the student rereads his/her story they will stop and think :“What did I hear, see, smell, taste and feel?”
Today the writer will add as many sensory details as they can at the beginning of their story-this sets the stage
Assignment #3
- If you are able to submit electronically, take a picture of your revisions and submit them to your teacher.
- If you are not able to submit your work electronically, just hang on to your draft as you will need it next week.

Explore how structures and functions of plants and animals allow them to survive in a particular environment (arctic plants).
Activity #1
Watch the video OR read about the Arctic Tundra. Students will then write about things they would need to survive in this environment.
