Spartan Spirit
Gratitude: Thank you to Carlos Avila and Kenny Seto for their critical thinking and collaborative hard work coordinating the SBAC testing assembly in the Auditorium on Friday during 4th Period. We are hopeful that the assembly will motivate our students to Meet and Exceed CCSS on the SBAC. All our work matters. Please encourage all 11th graders to continue doing their best on the test.
Gratitude: Thank you to Jennifer Gardea and Girls' League for their hard work and collaboration over the past month preparing Schurr's Sadie Hawkins' Dance. Students had a safe, positive evening dancing through the night at the Quad. We appreciate your courage and uplifting spirit.

Thank you to all of for your supportive collaboration creating a safe, positive, memorable experience for our Spartans.

Gratitude: Thank you to Claudia Monreal, Blanca Cuevas, Gabi Jimenez, Aurora Kalmar, and USB for your hard work clearing Schurr's Seniors in order to participate in Grad Bash. Gratitude: Thank you to Carlos Avila, Sandra Gutierrez, Larry McKiernan Denise Quan, Ami Szerencse, Ray Verduzco, and Eduardo Viramontes for visiting La Serna High School to learn about their MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) and Response to Intervention (RTI) systematic intervention. Gratitude: Thank you for supportively greeting students at the door when they come in to class. That small moment can make a student's day. A "hello, ____" or "good morning, ____" go a long way.
Gratitude: Thank you for continuously improving collectively as we empower students' academic excellence as model students by supporting Schurr's critical thinkers, collaborators, communicators, and creators. We appreciate your supportive hard work and uplifting spirit.

Schurr Announcements
SCHURR Expectation of the Week: Critical Thinking
“The principal goal of education in the schools should be creating men and women who are capable of doing new things, not simply repeating what other generations have done; men and women who are creative, inventive, and discoverers, who can be critical and verify,
and not accept, everything they are offered.”
-Jean Piaget
Attendance Rate: Our latest attendance rate was 95.18% (0.03% improvement). Let's work hard to keep our attendance rate above 95%. Please greet students at the door with your uplifting Spartan Spirit and engaging 4Cs learning environments. Remind them that they are loved at Schurr.
CAASPP Schedule: Please see the CAASPP Schedule. Reach out if you have any questions. For the logistics of the math schedule, please click on the embedded link within the schedule.
College Office Announcements: Scholarship season is here. Check out the various scholarships available at the SHS College Office website to see the scholarships offered. Paper copies of the scholarship applications are available at the College Office.
FAFSA is open: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. FAFSA is how Seniors can get both federal and state grants (free money for college) and guaranteed student loans. It is needed for the California College Promise (free tuition at community college). Start with your FSA ID. (You need your Social Security Number and a personal email.) Create an FSA ID for/with your parent. Get PRIOR year taxes ready (if parent filed). STEP By step guide. We will have workshops to help. No Social Security Number? Do DREAM ACT. It's much easier to do FAFSA than ever. Get started NOW!
FAFSA Completion Support: On April 29, Schurr will host Career Day. We will also be conducting a parent FAFSA workshop in the library to start and complete FAFSA Applications. Parents should bring their child's SSN, their W-2, and a copy of the first page of 2022 Taxes. For non-SSN students, there will be support for the Dream Act. We appreciate your support.
FAFSA Fridays! Need help or have questions on completing your FAFSA, go to the College Office in the library any period 1-4 to get help.
Programming: Student programming is in full swing. Our counselors are doing an exceptional job of meeting one-on-one with every 9th, 10th, and 11th grader to program them for the 2024-25 academic year. Please know that, due to this very busy time in the counseling office, the counseling team may not be as available as they usually make themselves. Thank you for your patience.
Senior Events: Seniors must be cleared to purchase Grad Night and Prom Tickets.
