Superintendent Briefing
September 2021
A Note from Dr. Hanson, Superintendent
Dear, Teachers, Friends, & Families,
Dear Parents/Guardians,
And we are off...
This school year is off to a great start with activities and classwork. We are proud of our students, staff, and families for working hard to keep us open to in-person learning. Thank you, all!
As we continue to work together, here are a few reminders on how we can keep our students, staff, and community healthy:
- We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE ALL NPPS employees, students, and visitors/ volunteers to wear a face-covering regardless of their vaccination status.
- We ask that each of us encourage and normalize face-coverings in our facilities.
- We will continue to follow the Return To School Plan as it is outlined. And will assess each COVID situation on a case-by-case basis.
How You Can Help~
- Practice good hand-washing and hygiene
- Physically distance when possible
- Self-Screen before coming to work and seek care when you do not feel well
- Work with your health care provider to determine if you can be vaccinated if you have not done so already
North Platte Public Schools will continuously review and update the 2021-22 NPPS Return to School Plan throughout the school year as the risk of COVID-19 spreads in our community and schools. This work will be ongoing as new research emerges and more guidance is provided to the school district from the West Central District Health Department (WCDHD), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE), and the U.S. Department of Education.
Any changes to our plan and protocols will be communicated through the website https://www.nppsd.org/, email, or social media.
North Platte Public Schools will adjust protocols (including face-covering requirements) as necessary to address changing conditions. During the 2021-2022 school year, protocols and requirements may change for a specific school building, program, classroom, transportation, or a setting based on the number of positive cases, contact tracing, community test positivity rate, community conditions, and risk of spread.
Visit the NPPS website to keep up with news, events, and activities in your school/s and the district http://www.nppsd.org/.
Sincerely,
Ron Hanson, NPPS
Superintendent

Budget Hearing
North Platte Public Schools has hosted a Budget Hearing for the 2021-2022 Expenditures and the 2021-2022 Property Tax Request. The Board of Education will be voting on the two items at its September 13 monthly meeting. If you have any questions regarding the budget, please email Stuart Simpson.
North Platte Public Schools will be submitting the ESSERS III application on or before September 15. We have taken input from patrons on the use of the funds. NPPS will be updating this application over the course of the next two years; if you have any questions, please ask Mr. Simpson.
Teaching & Learning
A family guide to MAP Growth
MAP Growth is a computer-adaptive test. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This type of assessment challenges top performers without overwhelming students whose skills are below grade level.

1:00 pm – Until Food is Gone
This is an OPEN AIR, DRIVE THRU Distribution. Patrons will drive their car through a line, and volunteers will bring the boxed food to the car. Free of charge. 325 Households will be served on a first come first serve basis. The Food Pantry is sponsored by the Food Bank of the Heartland.
Please start the line OUTSIDE of the school parking lot next to the tennis courts. DO NOT COME INTO THE PARKING LOT PRIOR TO THE SEMI UNLOADING THE DISTRIBUTION ITEMS.
If you are in the parking lot prior to the gates opening we will ask you to move your vehicle. When the mobile distribution begins, cars can drive up to the gate by the Northeast corner of the football field. Patrons will drive through the alley between the football field and the high school building, exiting on West A Street. Use only the entrance closest to the tennis courts to avoid congestion as students leave after school. While waiting for the distribution to begin you need to follow all traffic laws. Do not block driveways or streets for any reason. Safety is our number one concern and we do not want anyone to get hurt.
