A message from PLSD regarding Solar Eclipse Glasses
On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over
Mexico, the United States, and Canada. This will be an exciting celestial event and we want PLSD students and families to enjoy the day safely. Pickerington Local Schools are not in session on April 8th, but we want our students to have the ability to experience a solar eclipse. In preparation for the upcoming solar eclipse viewing event, we want to ensure the safety of all our students. As part of our safety measures, we have purchased solar eclipse glasses for each PLSD student for viewing purposes. Please be sure to review the attached flyer for important information regarding the safe use of the solar eclipse glasses. If you would like to opt-out from receiving the solar eclipse glasses, open the flyer and fill out the opt-out form. Should you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
If you need language assistance, please contact Deepak Dhaka at 614-833-2110 Ext-6501 or you can write, text or leave voice message in 817-703-1803.

An Important Message from PLSD
Dear Families,
In accordance with Ohio SB 288, your child will receive instruction on Child Sexual Abuse Prevention this year. This is a sensitive topic, and we wanted to notify you and provide some important information.
● In accordance with the law, beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, schools are required to provide developmentally appropriate instruction in Child Sexual Abuse Prevention to students in grades K through 6.
● To learn more about this mandate, here is a link to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Child Sexual Abuse Prevention page.
● As a parent or guardian, you may opt your child out of the Child Sexual Abuse Prevention lesson.
For your preview, here is the link to the Fight Child Abuse resource. Fight Child Abuse was selected from an approved list of resources set by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. This approved curriculum was used to design the lesson for our students. Students will be watching videos 1 and 2. 5th-grade students will be completing these activity sheets 5th Grade.pdf. 6th-grade students will be completing these activity sheets 6th Grade.pdf.
If you wish to opt your child out of the Child Sexual Abuse Prevention lesson, please send an email to Kelli_Saksa@plsd.us by Monday, April 1. Your child will be provided with an alternative environment and activity for this portion of the day. Please let me know if you have any additional questions, and I will be happy to answer them.
