November Life skill for the month- “GENEROSITY”
Generosity is a world-changing principle, and it’s one that can be taught from a young age. It is an inherent motivator of the greatest power, which will emerge if given a chance. It teaches children that one act of kindness can make a difference. Please help us teach your child what generosity looks like. See tips below.
We will be having a “Table Manners Day” on Thursday, November 14, 2019 during our Thanksgiving lunch. Students will be able to practice proper table manners. This event will be informal, but students may dress-up. In preparation for this meal, please review the following 10 basic table manners with your children:
· Come to the table with your hands clean
· When sitting down to the dinner table, napkin goes in your lap
· Sit up straight
· Never, ever chew with your mouth open
· Don’t talk with food in your mouth
· Never stuff your mouth, take small bites
· No elbows on the table
· Don’t play with your food
· Thank the cook
· Help clean up
Good table manners are an important skill for children to learn at an early age. Whether you’re eating at home or dining out, good table manners for kids are an important part of every meal. When you teach your child good table manners, you are giving them important tools for social interaction that will serve them for the rest of their lives.
Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help your child this year!

Attendance Information
Are you planning a family trip for the holidays? As you think about your arrangements, we want to stress the importance of sending your child to school every day possible. Every year, absences spike in the weeks before and after the winter holiday as families squeeze in a few more vacation days. It’s time to break that cycle. We know that just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and put your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school. Put simply, too many absences at any age can affect a student’s chances for academic success and eventually for graduation.
We recognize that holidays are an important time for reconnecting with families far away. The costs of plane tickets often influence when you want to travel. But keep in mind the costs to your children’s education if they miss too much school— and the message you will be sending about the importance of attendance. Even if you’ve got a homework packet from the teacher, it doesn’t make up for the interaction and learning that happens in the classroom. Our teachers will be teaching, and our students will be learning, right up until vacation starts and the first day back. You can help us convey that message. This holiday season, give your children the gift of an education and the habit of attendance.

November is National American Diabetes Month
National Diabetes Awareness Month in November is a special time to raise awareness of the difference between Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes occurs at every age, in people of every race, and of every shape and size. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the carbohydrates you eat into blood sugar that it uses for energy—and insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, everyone can learn to manage their condition and live long healthy lives. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. It means that your body doesn’t use insulin properly. While some people can control their blood sugar levels with healthy eating and exercise, others may need medication or insulin to help manage it.
Transportation Reminders
Also, if your student is a bus rider, please be at the bus stop on time for pick up. Tagged students (CD, K, 1st) will be brought back to the school. Students brought back will be sent to Kid Power at a drop-in rate of $12 per student. When students are brought back, this delays the bus route not only for any remaining KES bus riders, but also for the middle and high school riders of later routes.
