Go Tigers!
Message from the Principal
I am excited to start this journey of online learning with our community. The LMS staff has been working tirelessly to create opportunities for our students to continue their education despite inability to be together in person. Our mission is to provide optional resources and practice in formats that our students are already accustomed to using. We will rely heavily on google sites and google classroom to facilitate this learning, because our students have a lot of experience with the tools from this and previous years. Below you will find links to grade level websites to help navigate to content from all subjects. Please let me know if you encounter issues and we will work to resolve them as quickly as we can.
School Closure – Normal school operations are suspended through April 5, 2020. This includes closing the building to everyone except all essential staff; ceasing all building rentals; cancel all student competitions, games, events, practices and rehearsals. We are scheduled to return to normal operations on Monday, April 6, 2020. LISD will make announcements via the district website, social media, text, and phone call messages if anything changes. In addition, the district has created a COVID-19 webpage to address the district’s response to many issues, such as food services and lack of home internet access.
Campus Cleaning – All facilities are currently being cleaned with medical-grade disinfectants in alignment with the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Breakfast and Lunch Services – LISD is providing free, drive-thru breakfast and lunch services for all students. The pick-up window is 11:30 am to 1:30 pm Monday through Friday at the following locations: Bagdad Elementary School, Reed Elementary School, River Place Elementary School, and Running Brushy Middle School. The student must be present to receive the food per TDA guidelines.
Instruction – Teachers will be posting learning opportunities in their Google Classrooms to reinforce material already covered. Make sure you have your email notifications turn on for each of your classes or check the classes daily. This is an opportunity for students to process and support their learning while we are away from school. Assignments will not be graded during this two-week period, however, we do encourage students to participate in order to maintain these skills.
Note: Students will need to be in their district Google Account for Google Hangouts Meets.
Testing - Governor Greg Abbott has waived the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) testing requirements for the 2019-2020 school year.
Additionally, the Department of Education (DOE) has waived federal testing requirements for the 2019-2020 school year. Along with us, you can follow updates from the College Board considering ACT, SAT, and AP testing.
Grades - All grades are on hold until further notice. There is no need to worry about past assignments or missing grades until you hear differently. We know that some students may see grades in home access that they are not satisfied with, but we will deal with that at a later time.
Technology Support - If a student has any issues with a district-owned Lenovo device they can reach out to the LISD help desk @ (512) 570-0566. They can also fill out a Help Desk Ticket at http://servicemanager.leanderisd.org.
We Value You - As a member of the Tiger family, we care about your health and well-being. We also recognize you care about our community - many of you have asked how you can help. During this time, we ask you to help by:
Staying home if you are sick;
If you come in close, unprotected contact (within 6 feet) of an individual with COVID-19, stay home and monitor your temperature and symptoms for 14 days.
Avoid close gatherings when you cannot maintain 6 feet of separation from others
Continue washing your hands, keep hand sanitizer readily available, and disinfect surfaces.
Join in on the Fun - We at LMS are all about great culture and want to continue to show our love for one another even while we are learning from home. Each week the LMS administrative team will put out fun challenges and activities on social media for students and staff. Go like our pages, tag us in your photos and let’s keep our spirits high! - Mr. Haug
