Stand for the Silent Assembly | April 9 @9:45AM | Neville Public Museum
We are making last minute preparations for the assembly taking place tomorrow. Here is a quick review of options for traveling to/from the assembly. Students who do not take classes off-campus in the morning should arrive to JDAL at the regular time.
1. Students will board the city bus at 9:01 and travel to East High School to pick up our students who take a first hour class there. We will then travel to the transfer station to get on the bus that will take everyone to the museum.
2. Ms. Jenna and Mr. Rick plan to walk to the museum with interested students. The walk is 1.6 miles and will take approximately 40 minutes. This group will leave at 8:50.
3. Students who drive may drive themselves, but not their classmates. This group will leave at 9:30.
4. Students who take a 2nd hour off-campus or leave between 9am and lunch will remain at JDAL with Ms. Marcia until your class (unless your parent chooses to excuse you from your off-campus classes).
See below for details about this assembly from last week's newsletter:
We are very fortunate to be participating in an assembly next week titled Stand for the Silent. Please see below for information from the organization's website:
"Stand for the Silent was started in 2010 by a group of high school students in Oklahoma City, OK, after they heard the tragic story of how Kirk and Laura Smalley lost their son, Ty Field- Smalley, to persistent bullying – at eleven years-old, Ty took his own life after being suspended from school for retaliating against a bully that had been bullying him for over two years.
Through an engaging, factual, and emotional presentation, Kirk Smalley, along with the help of student leaders, presents his inspirational story, and students are shown first-hand the life and death consequences of bullying. Through this unique approach, lives are changed for the better. Students, some for the first time, develop an empathetic awareness through education and understanding."
Since May 2010, Kirk and Laura Smalley have traveled to more than 1,250 schools and have spoken with more than 1.3 million kids!
Students will travel with staff to the Neville Museum by city bus. Students who drive may drive themselves, but may not take other students. We invite all parents to join us as well. Please contact Ms. Jen if you have questions.
