Celebrating & Advocating for Theatre, Music, Art in Our Schools

Mayor Bristol proclaimed March 2024 as Theatre in Our Schools Month for the Town of Prosper. Theatre In Our Schools Month is an annual celebration promoting and advocating for theatre education in schools and communities across the state. During Theatre In Our Schools, the Prosper theatre departments organized events to showcase the power and significance of theatre education. These events included student performances, workshops, and community outreach programs, giving students the opportunity for leadership and self-expression.

Each March music educators across the country commemorate Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM)—a national celebration to raise awareness about the importance of having access to a quality music education available to all children. A vital component of this annual effort is when school boards and/or state governors issue proclamations affirming that access to music education is essential in their communities. This year several pieces of legislation are being introduced in Congress in support of music education and to nationally recognize MIOSM.

Honors Art 1 at the Grove use the Grid method to recreate a reference image. The mediums are chosen by the student and the finished pieces are either 12x16 inches or 18x24 inches. Using the grid method helps students break down complex images into manageable parts and allows them to get more accurate proportions when enlarging their image.

The fine arts incorporate the study of dance, music, theatre, and the visual arts to offer unique experiences and empower students to explore realities, relationships, and ideas. These disciplines engage and motivate all students through active learning, critical thinking, and innovative problem solving. The fine arts develop cognitive functioning and increase student academic achievement, higher-order thinking, communication, and collaboration skills, making the fine arts applicable to college readiness, career opportunities, workplace environments, social skills, and everyday life. Students develop aesthetic and cultural awareness through exploration, leading to creative expression. Creativity, encouraged through the study of the fine arts, is essential to nurture and develop the whole child.
