At Home Incentives Part 2
For example, if staying in your area is the desired behavior - then your child using this behavior at a high rate would be a good time to transition to a daily reward.
The first step would be goal setting with your child. For example, you earn a point every 30 minutes for showing the target behavior (in area, etc.).
Then look at their schedule and determine how many points can be earned in 30 minute increments during learning time. Let us say there are 10 possible earn times a day. Then earning 7 out of 10 points may be a good start. Meeting the goal of 7 would then give your child their daily reward.
These rewards do not have to be of monetary value but need to be desirable. Doing an interest inventory is a great way to work with your child on what could motivate them to meet their desired behavior goal. It is important to work with your child to get their input, and also be flexible and creative in ways to support them. After establishing daily incentives, you can then set weekly goals and provide weekly incentives. I have attached some examples of at home incentives that could be used as well as an example of an interest/reinforcement inventory!
