Regents Exams and 8th Grade LOTE Proficiency
Students will be dismissed to eat lunch in the Aud prior to traveling to Schroeder for their Regent's exams this week (Algebra on Tuesday 6/12 and Living Environment on Wednesday 6/13). Exams begin at 12:00 pm. Students will be bused to Schroeder and be sitting together by class in the Gym with the High School Students. No cell phones or electronics during testing. There will be an initial bus run at 2:15 back to Spry for students finished. There are runs home from Schroeder for those still testing after that time. Students may be picked up at Schroeder. We sent a letter home with students a couple of weeks ago detailing this information.
LOTE 8 Proficiency Exam
8th Graders will report to school like normal on Monday, June 18th to take their Spanish, French, or German proficiency exam. This exam will start once students arrive and are in their testing sites. This exam is the second part (speaking was done prior) of the exam for 1 LOTE credit. Buses will transport students home at 10:15 am. Students that have extended time can either be picked up by a parent when done, or bus transportation home will be provided.

Webster Schroeder PTSA would like to take this opportunity to welcome you, and your soon-to-be 9th grader, to Schroeder High School!
This is time of big changes. Our young teens are exercising greater independence, managing heavier course-loads, and meeting the challenge of balancing academics and extracurricular activities. As parents, we want to offer support so that all our kids will be healthy and successful.

Student Expectations for 2018-19 School Year
BACKPACKS
Students may carry a small nylon satchel (string backpack) or backpack purse during the school day. Large backpacks, book bags or oversized bag purses must be left in student lockers. If misused, a student can lose this privilege.
Cell Phones
All cellular telephones are not allowed during the school day between the hours of 7:35 am and 2:30 pm. They should remain off and in your locker. Text messaging is strictly prohibited during school hours. Phones in the Offices are available for any emergency communication.
Drinks in the Building
Students must bring drinks into the building in a sealed container (i.e. screw top cap or water bottle). If they are in a cup with a plastic top they will be asked to empty them before going to class or dispose of them. NO ‘Coffee House’ or ‘Fast Food’ Beverages are allowed into School.
Dress Code
All parents are expected to recognize that the education of their child is a joint responsibility of the parents and the school community. All students are expected to give proper attention to personal cleanliness and to dress for school and school functions in a manner that is in line with the Principles of the Webster school community regarding respect for self and others. Teachers and all other district personnel should exemplify and reinforce acceptable student dress and help students develop an understanding of appropriate appearance in the school setting.
The purpose of the student dress code is to reinforce the district’s mission of preparing all students to be life-long learners and help prepare them for their post-graduation endeavors. Student attire should be a reflection of an atmosphere of mutual respect supported by the district and should not be a distraction to the learning environment. As such, all students are expected to follow the guidelines below:
Acceptable
•All underwear that is completely covered by the outermost garment at all times. This includes bra straps and boxer shorts.
•Shirts and tops that have straps that are at least 2 inches wide.
•Necklines that cover cleavage, and do not expose any undergarments.
•Dresses, skirts, and shorts that extend to at least the mid-thigh or the tips of a student’s fingers when arms are extended at the sides.
Not Acceptable
•Clothing that promotes, displays, endorses, and/or encourages the use of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and/or illegal or violent activities.
•Clothing that contains messages that are vulgar, obscene, libelous, sexually explicit, potentially disruptive, or that denigrate others because of race, religion, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability.
•The wearing of hats will be left up to the discretion of building administrators. Hats will be allowed for religious requirements and/or for medical conditions with proper documentation.
•Athletic uniforms that are not consistent with the school dress code should not be worn during the school day.
•Clothing that is see-through, backless, or leaves a student’s mid-section exposed.
Safety
•Items that could be considered weapons such as heavy chains or “studs” are prohibited.
•Footwear is expected at all times. Certain classes require a particular type of shoes- for example sneakers for PE and closed-toed shoes for labs, Art, Tech. etc. Bedroom shoes are not appropriate school attire.
•Hoods and any garment that covers the face or side of the face are not acceptable. Exceptions will be made for religious dress requirements and/or for medical conditions with proper documentation.
Building Administration has final discretion.
Students who violate the Student Dress Code of their building shall be required to modify their appearance by covering or removing the offending item and, if necessary or practical, replacing it with an acceptable item.
Following the dress code is not optional.
Medication/Nurse
Dispensing Medications
The District strongly recommends that all medication be administered to students under the supervision of the nurse. If you must take any prescription or over-the-counter medication during school hours and/or at school-related events, State Law requires the following:
1. A written request from your health care provider
2. A written request from your parent/guardian
3. Medication in a pharmacy- labeled container for prescription medications and original manufacturer’s container for over-the counter medications
4. Medication delivered to the nurse by an adult, unless required documentation for Independent Use and Carry of Medication is on file and approved by the nurse
*You may not store medication in your locker nor carry and/or take medication in school or at school-sponsored events unless the required documentation is submitted to the Health Office. This includes prescription and over-the counter medication, dietary pills, supplements and vitamins. If you carry or use unauthorized medication or share medication with other students, you will be subject to disciplinary action as outlined in the District’s Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy, including suspension from school and referral to the CAP program.
Early Dismissal
• If you need to leave school early, a note from your parent or guardian must be brought to your house office prior to first period. You will be given a formal "school excuse" to leave, and your parent must sign you out at the front desk.
• If you return to school, you must report back to the front desk and get a pass to class.
• Only the School Nurse can excuse a student early from school due to illness. Students leaving school because of illness must be picked up in the Health Office by a parent or guardian.
• No one is allowed to leave during the school day without signing “out”. Any pupil leaving without permission will be considered truant. Parents and Police will be notified.
• Transportation to and from school is provided by school bus, parent, or guardian listed in Infinite Campus ONLY.
Arrival to School
• Spry Middle School opens to students at 7:15 am. If you arrive before 7:15 am, please enter through the front of the building (walkers) or through the South Parent Drop Entrance off RTE 250 and report to the West Cafeteria.
• There is NO STUDENT DROP-OFF in the District Lot of Sanford Street from 7:15am-7:30am.
• You are expected to be in your first period and seated when the homeroom bell sounds at 7:35 a.m.
• Breakfast opens at 7:15 am. in the East Cafeteria. Students must be purchasing breakfast item(s) to attend. Attendance is verified by a student’s input of their Student ID during a purchase.
Food/Snacks
• Leave ALL FOOD AND DRINKS in the cafeteria.
• Food and drinks ARE NOT to be purchased between classes or during study hall.
• There is no food in the classrooms (unless pre-planned by a teacher).
BALLOONS, FLOWERS & FOOD DELIVERIES
- Due to health and safety reasons, balloons and flowers are not allowed in the building and delivery to students will not be possible. Balloons are not allowed on school buses.
- Food service is provided in our school cafeteria. Delivery of food is prohibited in school (i.e. pizza, fast food, subs, etc.).
