We LOVE our RIF Books
Students in all grades had a chance to pick a book to keep for their very own. These books were provided by Richland One school district through the Reading is Fundamental program. The students also received an "I Love My RIF Book" bookmark. These bookmarks were created with lines on one side so the students could write why they love their RIF book, and the other side blank so the student could draw a picture about their book. The students who returned their completed bookmarks were entered into a contest. A winner will be chosen from each hallway.

Mo Willems Book Study
The Pigeon Series
First grade students enjoyed learning about Mo Willems and the cast of characters in his books. In particular they enjoyed how Pigeon always lets the reader know exactly how he is feeling by his body language. Students created Pigeon puppets with movable head and wing to show the pigeon's feelings. They then acted out the disappointment Pigeon feels at not being allowed to drive the bus, and also his excitement in finding a hot dog! Check out all the great series for beginning readers by Mo Willems, starring Pigeon, Gerald and Piggie.
