Superintendent's Weekly Update
Weymouth Public Schools - February 11, 2022
Recap: COVID At-Home Testing, Mask Mandate Lifted, The Future of Adams, Wildcat Nation
Dear Weymouth Public Schools’ Community,
I hope you are well, and healthy, as we round out another exciting week at Weymouth Public Schools.
This week you should have received a COVID at-home test kit from your student's school. As a reminder, please reserve one test for the last Sunday of February vacation (2/27) to test your child before returning from winter break. Special thanks to the Town of Weymouth and Mayor Hedlund for making this round of test kits possible.
Those who opted to participate in the at-home testing program will begin receiving test kits the week of February 28. If you have not opted into the program, and would like to receive test kits, please click here.
Yesterday the district announced masks will no longer be required in our schools for students, staff or visitors beginning Monday, February 28. Masks are still required on all school transportation per federal public health order.
As we near closer to the opening of the Maria Weston Chapman Middle School the district plans for the Adams facility continue to evolve. The district and School Committee are carefully considering all options, and outside factors, related to the future of the Adams -- including space challenges at the elementary schools, early childhood facilities, and centralized kindergarten.
The future of the Adams facility will be discussed at the February 17 School Committee meeting with a comprehensive presentation and an opportunity for community input. A decision for the future of Adams is expected as soon as the first meeting in March.
Speaking of Chapman, please find enclosed a video from the AAMS Film Club documenting the progress of Chapman Middle School classrooms and neighborhoods. To view additional videos of the progress of Chapman from the AAMS Film Club, please visit the Wildcat Nation monthly newsletter here.
Have a great weekend, we look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday.
Best Regards,
Robert Wargo
Superintendent
