Spotlight on Kindergarten Literacy
We spend a big part of each day on Literacy. Students work in whole group and small groups listening to and discussing stories, learning the names of letters, learning to hear, identify, and manipulate sounds to make words, and how to count syllables and rhyme. This provides a strong foundation for good readers. Many kindergarteners will begin reading books with decodable words around December-January.
What You Can Do At Home - practice letter names and sounds (I have flash cards if needed), sing nursery rhymes, read books to your child.
