Dear Cavalier Families,
SBAC testing continues this week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Students will be released at 1:00 pm. Students, there are parts of the test that require listening, if you have your own earphones that can plug into your iPad, please bring them on Wednesday and Thursday.
Parents, Staff Appreciation Week starts this week into next. Would you like to contribute to a snack bar for our hard-working staff? If you would like to donate items like a box of donuts, cookies, fruit, etc. or other packaged item that would be great! I know our staff will really be thankful. Please drop off your item(s) to the front office and let me know which family they are from so I can properly acknowledge your donation. Thank you so much!

Questions and Answers from our Family Event "Understanding Your Teen"
- I want to learn about how to connect with my adolescent child.
Part of parenthood is holding both truths of being sad and happy. Sad that our children were not who they once were and happy that they are becoming and learning to be their own person. To connect with your teen, just with any relationship with any stranger, we are curious and ask questions. Ask what your child is interested in doing. If it’s playing games, maybe it’s asking them to teach you how to play video games with them. If it's reading a book, read a book together and have a mini-book club together. If it’s playing pokemon, ask them to tell you about it.
Playing video games DOES NOT interest me at all nor is playing pokemon. But I started to learn how to play these things in order to connect with my child. Most of the time, I have to be taught how to play these things but when your child sees your interest, they will connect more with you.
Before I send them off to school, I give them one homework question: Notice something that made you laugh today and report back to me on the way home. Or notice something odd today that stood out to you and report back to me. In the car ride home, I would follow up with them: What made you laugh today? Or What was something odd today?
- I need to know more about teen depression and learn how to know if my child is passing through that point (phase).

- My daughter needs help to be able to know how to express herself with other people.
If it is something that your daughter saw in herself to work on, I would recommend journaling and feeling the need to express not just verbally but also artistically through song writing, drawing, dancing, singing. Any art form allows any human to tap into their feelings to be able to express themselves.
However, if it is something that you want to see changes in your teen, it is important to understand that teens are going through a lot - emotionally and physically and may not express in the ways we hope for them to and that is okay. If you are hoping for more expression from her with your relationship, I recommend fun games to break the ice among the both of you. If it is with other people, like anyone else, trust and a sense of safety needs to be established in order for teens to feel comfortable to express themselves.
We have made it a routine so much that my kids expect me to ask them about their day in the car, what was the best thing that happened to you? Worst thing that happened? Or any surprises. At first, their responses were one word. The best thing: Coming home. Worst thing: Going to school. But after pressing and knowing that I will not be judging them for their answers, they are now telling me stories in the car without me prompting them.
Club TC Sports! Great Season!
Parents, some activities you can try with your teen!
