Arkansas State Testing - ATLAS
ATLAS Testing is the new state testing that replaced Aspire. We have scheduled a few practice assessment dates to help students become more comfortable with the new system and testing processes. We are trying to be as proactive as possible to make this transition and testing season successful for all students. Note that "summative" indicates the required state testing that will be reported to you in the fall and partially dictates the school ESSA Index Score. Please mark your calendars for the following dates:
- Tuesday, April 30th - ATLAS Summative - Reading
- Wednesday, May 1st - ATLAS Summative - Math
- Thursday, May 2nd - ATLAS Summative - Science
April is Military Month of the Child
EEI would like to honor our military families in a few different ways. If you are a military family, please email amberbinz@sheridanschools.org to give us more information. We would like a picture of your military hero, pictures of your deployments and stations, and a list of all of the places the military has taken you and your family.
- We will be creating a large map at the front of the building where we will mark all of the places our military families have been stationed. We would also like to put pictures of your travels to accompany the map.
- We will also be creating a Wall of Heroes in the front hall.
- Military Child Breakfast at EEM on April 26th
Keeping Parents in the Loop
Accelerated Reader Information
Parents, ask your child about Accelerated Reader! EEI started using Accelerated Reader in mid January.
AR is a program designed to encourage students to read! AR tests student comprehension of what they have read using an online computer program. Books are assigned points based on complexity and length of texts. If the student answers all questions correctly, they receive the maximum amount of points for that book. Each day the last 20 minutes of school is dedicated to reading in our classrooms whether that be in a read aloud, silent reading, or taking AR test for points.
Each grade level is competing for an extra recess based on the number of points accrued monthly.
In May, all 3rd graders that have earned 30 or more points, 4th graders with 40 or more points, and 5th graders with 50 or more points will be invited to a fun celebration in the library!
Staff Shout Outs
Attendance Matters!
Traffic Flow
- Please remember that the yellow gate will not open to pull around until 2:15 p.m. This is to protect our students while they are playing on the playground.
- Students are not to be let out of the car before 7:30 a.m. when an adult is on duty.
- Pay close attention to our SRO and staff directions during drop-off and dismissal. We have a few close calls with drivers not paying attention to our traffic directors.
- We close the gate at 9:30 a.m. and do not open it until 2:15 p.m. We do have an alarm set and will open it as soon as possible. This is a safety measure for our students.
- Leave space for buses to exit the pull-through and stop far enough back (behind the mailbox on the right) so bus drivers can exit onto Sawmill
- Have your tag available and in full view so we can keep the line moving

OTC Medications
SSD policy states that over-the-counter medications (Tylenol, ibuprofen, Benadryl, etc.) cannot be given at school without a doctor's order. See page 165 of the student handbook. If you need the form sent home with your child, please let me know and I can provide it. As a reminder, students cannot carry medication on their person. All medications must be given to the nurse or administration by an adult.
