NAESP: Report to Parents - The Art of Giving
During this time of year, we reflect on "giving" thanks for the many good and positive things in our lives. This time of year is also about "giving thanks by helping others in need" - be it supporting philinthropic causes, giving our time, etc. - and not needing anything in return. This article from from NAESP describes the many things we can do with children and how they can make a positive impact within their communities. - Mr. Funseth
NAESP: Report to Parents - The Art of Giving:
Schools across the country are getting children as young as kindergartners and preschoolers involved in service learning— a blend between community service and expanded instruction. Many service learning advocates feel that by helping others, children can learn responsibility, build character and citizenship, and discover the special joys of giving.

Buckingham's "Manner's Make a Difference"
Throughout the year, Buckingham will focus on good behaviors and positive manners that we expect from our students at school and home. Our Manners Make a Difference campaign highlights the good things that people do to positively impact others. At Buckingham, we encourage kids to treat others kindly, cordially, and with respect. During Monday morning announcements, Mr. Funseth reads the manner of the week for students to add to their "library" of positive behaviors.
November Manners:
- "If you come across a parent, a teacher, or a neighbor working on something - ask if you can help. If they say "yes," do so -- you may have fun learning something new.”
- "Walk quietly through the halls, especially when going to lunch or coming in from recess. Too much noise could disrupt others learning.”
- "Cover your mouth (with your sleeve) when you cough or sneeze - and use a tissue to blow your nose. Then wash your hands."
Happy Thanksgiving - Practice your Manners during your time off!
-Mr. Durie

School Happenings
Veteran's Day at Buckingham
On Monday, November 11, 2013, Buckingham Elementary School held our annual Veterans Day Ceremony - proudly recognizing all of the brave men and women who have served our country. Service men and women were invited to speak among our 5th and 6th graders - sharing their experiences during their times of service in one of the branches of our Armed Forces. Afterwards, all of our honored guests and students transitioned to the cafeteria to participate in the ceremony - learning about the History of Veterans Day and singing patriotic songs. It was a proud moment for all of Buckingham and the Community of Veterans who joined us on this day!
5th Grade Visits Elbow Lane Ropes Course
On October 21st and 22nd, Buckingham's 5th grade enjoyed two beautiful days at Elbow Lane Ropes Course Trip! The ideas of challenge by choice, giving and receiving feedback, and having safe fun were emphasized throughout all of the activities. We had a wonderful time on our trip!

The sponsoring organization is Project Believe. Excellent work by our students and staff!
