Dear NSD Families and Staff,
Thank you to all students, families, and staff for a great first week of school. I visited each school and was delighted to feel the energy and the excitment that only the first days of school can bring. I am looking forward to a great school year.
Meanwhile, open houses begin, with many scheduled at the elementary schools this week. Open houses are a great way for teachers to meet with parents, establish how they can keep in touch with one another, and introduce parents with the lessons ahead and what their children will be learning. Please take advantage of all that open house has to offer.
Thank you.

September 6, 2022 Meeting
Michael Reinke, Executive Director, Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter, made a presentation about Nashua Meals for Kids: Together We Can End Childhood Hunger. Need continues with about 40% of our students experiencing food insecurity. Since 2017, NSK&S has been building partnerships to increase opportunities and access to nutritious meals. To learn more, please contact NSK&S.
- The Board approved a recommendation to hire 13 teaching staff members.
- The Board also approved three MOUs between the Nashua School District and the Nashua Teachers Union regarding clarifying placement on the teacher salary schedule, revising Franklin Street Preschool paraeducator work schedule, and extending an agreement for teachers who teach extra classes.
The next Nashua Board of Education meeting will be held, Monday, September 26, 2022.

School Start
I am happy to report week #1 of the new school year went very well.
I appreciate all of our staff’s efforts to ensure a smooth opening for our students. I know a lot of effort when into thinking about bus schedules, lunch supervision, student schedules, traffic patterns, and all the other nuances that need attention in anticipation of a new school year. My thanks to…
- our custodians who worked this summer to ready our schools
- our teachers who taught during the summer to help prepare students for the new school year
- our food service staff who made sure breakfast and lunch menus were ordered and ready so our students are well-fed and ready to learn
- our school nurses who made sure families knew about vaccination requirements for school
- our secretaries who made sure students were registered for school
- our athletic coaches who spent the last few weeks preparing teams to compete
- and our administrators and our human resources staff who made sure new staff were ready for their new roles with us.
Again, to all who stepped up this summer to make last week as successful as it was…my warmest thanks.
Enrollment
Officially, we will be finalizing enrollment next month but, meanwhile, we are encouraged by the number of students returning to our schools who spent last year learning at home. Just during the month of August alone, 31 students returned to their neighborhood schools from being home schooled. It is great to have them back.
JROTC
Congratulations to JROTC Cadets Bryson Borromeo and Christian DiVernieri, two of 350 cadets selected from more than 18,000 applicants to attend the US Air Force flight academy this summer. Both earned their private pilot’s license through the academy and received their class’s highest academic honors.
Both Bryson and Christian attend Nashua HS North and are members of the Class of 2023.
Bryson currently serves as the Group Commander of the program, plays football and wrestles, and belongs to several school clubs. Christian is the program’s Operations Commander and runs cross country and indoor and outdoor track.
We are very proud of Bryson and Christian, and I hope they have fun taking to the skies!
Annual School-Based Flu Clinics
As we do each year, our school nurses work with the City’s Division of Public Health and Community Services to provide flu vaccine clinics at school for each student and staff member. Public health is providing consent forms, which school nurses have available in their officies or on their school websites. The consent form for parents to sign for their students is linked here. The clinics will take place in each of our schools, starting the week of September 19 through late October.
Thank you.
