Horizon Husky Newsletter
March 2021
From the Principal's Desk:
Dear Horizon Families,
I can’t believe that we are half-way through the year already. I would like to thank our students, parents, and community members for all their support and continued flexibility, during these challenging times.
Last month, our students participated in learning about some of the contributions, to American History, made by famous African Americans. I am sure that you heard your students talking about what they learned. We also continued to practice friendship skills. It has been such a pleasure to be able to spend time in zoom classrooms. I have heard and seen students making connections with one another, making friends, and practicing kindness and respect towards each other.
Our staff and I are excited for March 8th when we welcome our second-grade students back for in-person learning. This means that we will open our doors to second grade students whose parents chose in-person instruction on the parent survey. Our schedule to bring back students for in-person learning are as follows:
-Second grade March 8th
-First grade March 22nd…. Tentative
-Kindergarten March 29th…..Tentative
This Thursday from 6:30-7:30pm, we are hosting an In-Person Learning Information Zoom meeting. This is for second grade parents whose students are returning to in-person learning. You will find the meeting zoom link in your child’s Schoology site by March 3rd . At this zoom meeting you will be informed about our building safety protocols as well as our student discipline plan. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions. This is a time for us to share vital information so that we can reopen our school safely.
With this hybrid/in-person learning schedule, it is imperative that you help your students to follow our safety policies. In order to ensure the safety of all students and staff, we ask that you review the safety protocols as well as watch the videos on our district website. You can help your students get ready for in-person learning by practicing wearing a mask properly around others, practice 6 ft. physical distancing at all times, and practice proper and frequent hand washing and sanitizing. By practicing and adhering to these recommended strategies we can help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In closing, I want to reiterate our gratitude for your continued support and wish you and your family good health.
Best,
Ms. Pon
Supplies and Materials for Your Students:
Important student supplies and instructional materials are available to be pick-up by families this Wednesday, March 3rd, from 8:00am-6pm. If your family is ever in need of additional supplies, please call our office at 425-366-3000.
When you arrive at Horizon to pick up the materials, please remember to wear a mask, stay in your vehicle, and drive up to the sign. If you are walking, please walk towards the blue gates by the front office. Our front office staff are here to help you get the materials your child needs for them to successfully learn either in-person or remotely.
Kindergarten Registration:
Immunizations are required for in person school based on our state law. Students must be current in immunizations to attend school. A new state law states that students who are not up to date with their immunization requirements will be excluded from school until those conditions are met. Learn more about the state’s new immunization requirements on the district immunizations website. If you have further questions about kindergarten registrations, you can contact Kim Freeman at 425-366-3000 or Judy Heminger at 425-356-1209.
School Nurse's Message:
If your child is returning to in-person learning and needs medication during school hours, our nurse, Maureen McKenzie, will contact you this week to inform you of our process of having medication on site. A medication authorization form will be necessary for all medications at school.
Curbside Library:
Curbside Library Book Pick Up has been expanded to every Thursday and Friday! There are 4 easy steps to getting books from the Horizon library each week:
- Make a plan to come to school on Thursday or Friday between 8:00am-4:00pm.
- Reserve books using the Google Form in the Library Schoology course; OR put books on hold using Destiny Discover ( for students in grades 3, 4, and 5). Reserve books no later than Tuesday!
- Come to school on Thursday or Friday and pick up your books! Ring the doorbell by the office. We wear masks and practice social distancing.
- Bring back all library books when you come to get your new books.
On Supply Distribution day, we will have reserved books ready for students, even if it’s not on a Thursday or Friday.
Technology Support:
Is your child in need of a computer or headphones? Does your family need WiFi access? Are you having trouble logging into Schoology? If you need help with technology, please call our school first. Our Dean of Students, Mr. Lofthus, can answer your questions, or get you the support or resources you need.
