St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 5 | 18 AUGUST 2022
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Our term is flying by very quickly. Many thanks to Mrs McDonald for her work in preparing our students participating in CEWA Performing Arts performances this term. These performances require a lot of preparation and hard work and practice.
A reminder to families that students should not be on the school grounds prior to 8:30 am. St Columba’s provides supervision only from 8:30 am until the bell goes at 8:45 am. On entering the school grounds during the day all visitors are required to sign in at the front office. If students are going to play on the playground equipment after school it is a requirement that a parent must be there to supervise; school staff do not supervise the play equipment after school. If students are unsupervised on the equipment they will be asked to leave the area.
Earlier this week I met with our Head Boy, Jack, and Head Girl, Amelie, regarding the results of the student council meeting. A number of items that were discussed will be actioned in the near future. Some of these are the P&F providing funds for Year 3-6 classroom mini libraries as more books were requested; also, the bottom oval will be sprayed again for ants; and a request from students to retain the seating at lunch times that was introduced as a part of Covid procedures. The students were also very happy with the modified footy goals and Jump Rope for Heart.
This week is Wellness Week and it was great to see parents at the coffee van this morning enjoying a chat. You can view some insightful wellness tips from our Head Girl, Head Boy and Liturgy Officer on Facebook. We end the week on a fun note by wearing Footy colours tomorrow.
We hope to see you at our Book Week Parade on Monday, 9 am on the top oval courts.
A reminder, students will finish this term on Wednesday September 21
God Bless and keep safe.

Bookweek Parade 2022
Calling all Book Characters! It’s time to dress to impress in your favourite book character costume for the annual Book Week Parade at St Columba’s.
The Book Week Parade will take place on Monday, 22 August at 9am, with all classes in PP-Year 6 coming out onto the outside courts to showcase their costumes.
Students are welcome to wear their Book Week costume for the remainder of the day or change back into their school uniform following the parade.
We look forward to a morning of fun and excitement. All parents are welcome.
Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Feast of the Assumption took place on Monday, 15 August.
It is our faith that Mary, the Mother of our Lord, has been gifted by her Son with a share in His new state of life. He now nourishes her with his Resurrection life, and that means that her body and soul, her total humanity, is suffused with divine glory.
With Mary, the tradition inspired by the Holy Spirit, tells us that at the end of her earthly life, she grace-fully made the transition from earthly to heavenly existence without the wrenching apart of body and soul, which we may expect.
That is what we mean by ‘The Assumption’. It has been believed and celebrated since the early centuries of the Church.
National Science Week
Welcome to Science Week at St Columba’s!
The theme this year is ‘Glass: More Than Meets the Eye’. Did you know that glass is made up of silicon dioxide, which is the same as sand? It can also be recycled an infinite number of times. Each class will be completing one lesson or experiment with their teacher based on using or making glass. How fun!
Students not returning in 2023 - complete the form (Pre-Kindy to Year 5)
To assist us with planning for next year, please complete the form below if your child is not returning to St Columba’s next year (if you haven’t already done so). Families are obliged to provide at least one term’s notice in writing of their intention to remove a child from the school, otherwise a full term’s fees may be charged.
P&F News
Hi Everyone,
The P&F have been really busy finalising tea towels, melamine plates and cards that count for the school. For those of you that have ordered cards that count, your children will be bringing home some information with their code and how to order this week. The link is open until 2nd September for ordering and will arrive at the school in November. Thank you to Lara for coordinating.
Please don’t forget to RSVP for the P&F Fathers Day event coordinated by our amazing PP reps. Kindy families, you will also be having a similar event, but will be held on Wednesday 31st August to make sure nobody misses out. PreK and Kindy, your teachers will send you all the information.
Tickets for the Night in White will be available soon. Entertainment has been booked (including a few surprises), you don’t want to miss out!
Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday 30th August. If you would like us to discuss anything in particular, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thanks,
Hayley Mitchell

Father's Day Breakfast - Friday 2 September
Calling all Dads and Father Figures,
You are invited to the Father's Day Breakfast Event, run by our P & F Team, on Friday, 2 September from 7:30 - 9:00am in Kalyara Mia (Undercover Area).
This event is for dads and father figures who have children in Pre-Primary to Year 6. (Kindy and Pre-Kindy Dads will have a separate event. Class teachers will send communications regarding this.)
The P & F will provide a sausage sizzle breakfast and a selection of baked goods. #yesplease
Dads and their children are welcome to dress in "Superhero" attire for the event. Just for a bit of extra fun! (completely optional). Games will also be available for those who wish to participate.
We ask Dads (or mums on their behalf) to reply to our Expression of Interest form below to allow the P & F to ascertain numbers for catering purposes. We ask for this to be completed by COB Friday, 19 August.
Formal communications will follow from the school.
We are excited to be able to offer this community event for our dads and father figures.
Regards,
P & F Team
