Dear EUSD Families and Staff,
As we continue to be reflective in our practices regarding safety, I wanted to update you on our latest work in this area. We have completed safety walk-throughs and site assessments on all 9 campuses and Farm Lab. These proved extremely valuable in the past and led to a number upgraded safety features such as additional gates, fencing, emergency radios, universal calling systems and security cameras. We are now working with our team to further enhance our facilities.
Today, we had the first of our refresher training sessions for employees. Every employee will attend one session in September with the academic/classroom portion of Crisis Management and then all employees will participate in an active shooter simulation drill without children present. Training is the single best opportunity we have to prepare our campuses for any type of crisis. We will continue to provide updates throughout the year on our safety measures.
Warmly,
Andrée Grey, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Update on Vaccine Verification for Volunteers and Workers in Schools
Earlier this week, California rescinded the Vaccine Verification for Workers in Schools public health order effective September 17. This order has been in place since August 2021. Effective September 17, unvaccinated volunteers and school employees will no longer have to undergo weekly COVID-19 testing as previously mandated by the public health order.
School Spotlight: La Costa Heights Elementary School
Each month a school is spotlighted at our EUSD Board Meeting. Principal Kay gave an informative presentation on the exciting happenings at La Costa Heights. La Costa Heights is a Leader in Me School. Leader in Me is a whole-school improvement process based on the idea that everyone can be a leader. This evidence-based approach empowers students with the leadership and life-skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. Principal Kay shared how student voice is being used to enhance and support programs like their Recess Lounge, their morning announcements and LCH Leaders on Stage.
EUSD Family Picnic
Many thanks to our Special Education Parent Council for hosting the EUSD Family Picnic on September 11th. An amazing time was had by all! There was Kona Ice, obstacle courses, puppies, a sheriff’s station, popcorn and the famous Bubble Guy!
Resources from the Parenting in the Digital World Event
Earlier this month, EUSD hosted “Parenting in the Digital World” with author and law enforcement Encinitas Union School District was pleased to host Parenting In the Digital World for all of our EUSD parents last week. Clayton Cranford was our special guest speaker who covered relevant and timely topics about the digital world of our students that helped equip our parents to be engaged with their own children.
If you were unable to attend or would like to revisit the material covered, we have good news for you! You can access a special video presentation in either English or Español at the links below for a limited time! The links are open now through September 26, 2022. NOTE: The video will not be available after this date.
Both the English and Español versions of Parenting in the Digital World last 90-minutes, and are engaging, and they are eye-opening presentations about what is really going on in our children’s digital world.
**NOTE: This was an adult workshop and the content is geared toward an adult-only audience.**
