Set Limits
· Why are setting limits for my child important?
Setting and enforcing limits for your child can help them learn self-regulation and self-discipline , its helps children begin to set limits for themselves
· Please describe some steps I should use when setting limits.
-setting limits include 4 step:
SHOW AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE CHILD'S DESIRE
"I know you think it's fun to draw on the wall"
SET THE LIMIT AND EXPLAIN IT
"But you may not draw on the wall because it's hard to clean crayon marks off the wall."
ACKNOWLEDGE THE CHILD"S FEELINGS
"I know you like drawing on the wall, but walls are not for drawing"
GIVE ALTERNATIVES
"if you want to draw, you may draw on this paper"
· Should I be consistent when setting limits? Why?
- It is very important to firmly and consistently enforce limits once they're set
Encourage Independence
· Why does my child always say “Me do it?”
Children ages one through three want more autonomy meaning they want to do things for themselves, including bathing ,dressing, and eating
· Why is it important to have realistic expectations of what my child can do at a certain age?
When a child begins learning to self-feed , the process will messy , using unbreakable dishes will minimize the mess , when teaching toddlers how to dress themselves use clothes that are easy to put on and take off
· Can you give some examples of ways that I can encourage independence?
providing toddlers with their own towel, washcloths, bush or comb, and toothbrush can encourage independence in staying clean and neat

Learning self-help skills increases confidence and independence
Promote Sharing
· How can I help my child develop sharing skills?
- Engage children in activities that require them to share, such as playing on a see-saw
- Place them in situations where they must take turns, such as going down a slide
- Limit the materials available for an activity so that children have to share or take turns
- have children take turns handing out snacks
- make clear what behavior you are trying to encourage
- recognize and praise a child when they share or take turns
Deal With Aggressive Behavior
· Why might my child demonstrate inappropriate or aggressive behavior?
that means that the child is upset or that some need is not being met
· What should I do if my child is demonstrating inappropriate or aggressive behavior?
caregivers need to look for and understand the problem behind aggressive or inappropriate behavior
· My child is age 1 ½ and has been biting her brother—What should I do?
determine what is causing the child to bite , then you may take steps to guide the child toward more appropriate behavior
· How should I respond if my child is hitting or kicking over sharing a toy?
you could offer a distraction , time outs could be an effective way to help children understand that certain behaviors are not acceptable
