8/4/22 - He Pānui Wiki Tekau, Whānga Tuatahi
Tēnā koutou i tēnei ahiahi (good afternoon/evening everyone).
This week we have been relying on our manaakitanga practices to care for those around us, and move us all ever closer to a much needed rest over the Easter break. Our thoughts have been with the Herrick Whānau who lost a much loved mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunty & friend last weekend. Sherry was an active part of our school over many years and she will be deeply missed. A care package was delivered to the whānau on behalf of the school. If you would like to contribute to Angel Meal Vouchers, please deposit funds into our -50 account (Gladstone School: 12-3290-0001530-50) and we will get this organised on behalf of the wider Gladstone School community.
Congratulations to Sophie Mitchell and her partner Sam who have recently announced that they are expecting their first baby later this year - very exciting news. Sophie plans to take maternity leave from Term 4 and we have started the process to appoint a long term reliever to cover Sophie in Kourarau syndicate.
We are very keen to bring whānau back on site and have planned a Sunday afternoon picnic for the 15th of May. We are combining it with a quick 2 hour working bee before hand from 10 - 12 and then will move to the picnic. It is a great opportunity to reconnect with staff & other families as well as a chance to have a look through the classrooms.
Holiday Goat & Chicken Feeding
Thanks so much to those families who helped out over the summer holidays. We would love a hand over the April holidays - if you are around and would be able to sign up to feed the goats & chickens for a 3 day block, please add your name to the roster below.
Values Focus This Week
Team Gladdy has done a wonderful job of focussing on the inclusive part of our vision for the school. Let's continue with mahi (work) in this space.
Have a lovely weekend everyone,
Ngā manaakitanga,

The outcome of this review has been that what we currently have in place is meeting all expectations from the MoE, MoH & Worksafe. A copy of the review can be found by using the link below. If you have any feedback around our COVID-19 procedures & processes please email this through to principal@gladstone1.school.nz for the BoT to consider.

Snapshot from the week
A big thanks to Danielle Charters for leading netball at Gladstone School.
Danielle is super proud of her year 3 & 4 team (as are we). This message from Danielle: Even though the team had alot of disruptions due to covid, they really came together and worked as a team today. Such a good feeling seeing how well they played. They should be very proud of themselves. Such a cool geoup of kids. Cant wait till term 4 to play again! Great team work on the court.
Rosie and her pony Lucy were part of the Wairarapa Pony Club team who went over to the Battle Hill Forest Park one day event in Wellington last weekend. This event combines the scores from 3 disciplines, dressage, show Jumping and a cross country jumping course. Rosie and Lucy were 4th after her dressage test and finished the day with a 3rd place. Super result for the two of them who had not even seen the course till that morning and at their 3rd one day event ever.
Mountain Bikes
Our friends over the hill at Wainuioru School have recently done a 'Mountain Bike Drive' and had great success in securing bikes for the school that students can use. We have a grant application in the pipeline to get a set of school bikes and helmets but in the meantime, if you have a mountain bike in good working order that you would be happy to donate, please let us know and we can organise to pick it up. We are also on the look out for a range of helmets that might be collecting dust in garages.
